This picture is taken just when the sun is rising. I like the side light wich gives the varm, golden frame and the water still is cold and blue.
This is in the middle of the hard vinter in Iceland, there is not a lot of snow but it was cold, I can guarantee that! Most of this fantastic waterfall is frozen.
Gullfoss means "golden waterfall" and according to old legends, the fall received its name because when the sun shines on to the water a rainbow appears, and the story says that where the rainbow ends there is a golden treasure. In this case the rainbow ends in the waterfall = the Golden Waterfall = Gullfoss

Re Post - I have learned a lot since I posted this one. And my earlier version was not giving justice to this photo! I did a new size on it, new cropping, straightened the horizon, ran it through Neat Image and used levels and USM.

Interesting shot of this very huge waterfall Frida. The morning light adds a dramatic touch to the landscape with a fine contrast of the warm light in the foreground. The little snow/ice on the sides adds to the mood

ouaHHH,
such a nice image Frida. I was there the other day, it's splendid. Nice to see you back.

Hi Frida. Indeed a substantial improvement compared to your original posting of this scene. Very impressive how the morning light gives that warm glow to the scarce brown vegetation, and how the frozen waterfalls in the shadow look every bit as cold as they must actually be that time of year. Very nice.

Awesome shot Frida. In the thumbnail it almost looked like brightly lit flames. In the bigger picture it turned out to be grass. Beautyfull colorsetting.I like your cropping and the postproduction on the repost. Makes the shot even better. Good job.

Hello Frida,

very exciting shot. Has something of a sweet and sour taste. Looks warm and icy at the same time. Perfect of light. TFS.

Thomas

It is indeed a contrast, the cold blue and the warm "gold" in one picture, that's nice to see in this heavy nature. However, I also would like to see the sun on the ice, would be nice too and you saw it, I think.
I like the roughness in your picture here, nice one, Frida !

Frida, you took this waterfall beautifully. I really like the contrast between the colors. It brings strength to the photo, and it makes nature looks even more powerful.
Cheers!

Frida

This is beautiful. You have taken what is a typical tourist vantage point and injected life into it.

Hello Frida
Beautiful composition.
I like the contrast between the cold and warm colors.
It is almost unnatural to see so much horizontal frozen water.
Your timing was excellent to capture this scene under the morning sun, warming us.
Charles

very impresive photo...
I like very much the light part in front of the photo...

How funny, we have a television program here in the US called 'Sunrise Earth' and they film different places while the sun rises and this was one of the places that they filmed. I like the morning light on the grasses in the foreground and on the hill in the background. The composition is nice and I like how the colors complement each other.
Regards,
Ryan
