I couldn't leave Reykjavik without at least one or two modern architectural photos!
This is an abstract view from inside the recently built Opera House located in Reykjavik. From the inside I felt like I was a bee captured in a Bee's nest :)
The Honeycomb designs were everywhere, making for very interesting views and configurations to compose.
I'm glad there was at least 1 person in this photo for size scale. The shot was taken in the early Blue Hour, and there were no events this night, therefore very few people around.
I'll add a WS photo to show you the outside.

Reminds me a bit of the Seattle Public Library, Craig (have you ever visited that building? I've only seen pictures, but it seems like a place you'd have some fun with...) The POV is awesome, using the long stairs to guide us through the shot with the fascinating honeycomb windows and ceiling giving way below to more traditional shapes. Thanks!

You are right, Craig. Very interesting and original design, Good presentation of Reykjavik. Good exposure, fine details of an interior. We also can see the evening sky over the city. TFS!
Greetings from Russia!

This is an amazing architecture on the modern Opera, Craig.
It's glass and iron elements deserve a tribute, knowing you also know to appreciate such buildings.
View on town from indoor's must be an overwhelming sight, and hope the acoustic on stage and hall is good as well.
Cheers for a magnificent and well taken photo.

More cool architecture! You could consider becoming an architectural photographer for magazines. ;-) This beehive design is modern and different, and I like the way you used the staircase as a diagonal divider through the frame. There was recently a B/W photo of this building in the gallery, did you see it? Together with your photo, I can really get a sense of the scale of this interior.

Amazing this structure. It really remember a bee nest.
Well done Craig to register and show it for us.
I like the outside photo too. This photo was taken during th day? Because the outside photo seems a bit dark to me. I'm thinking this place ia very clean blue sky could result is very nice abstract photos.

Seen from the inside, one can indeed make the comparison with a huge beehive.
Very nice with the diagonal line of the stairs and the golden colour of these stairs and of a part of the ceiling makes an attractive contrast with the blue from the outside.
Best regards, Paul

Ultra moderne l'Opéra,vraiment une architecture intéressante, original, bonne présentation et POV montrant a la fois le bas et le haut, la diagonale de l'escalier, accentue la profondeur , la personne donne l'échelle, très belle présentation

Wow! This must be a real outstanding architecture. You have found a great POV to provide us with superb scene with so many interesting and attractive textures and details. Very well done. Brilliant image!

Yes, I can see the similarity between our two shots.
I love the use of the diagonal stairway which acts both as a lead and as a separation line.
You have really given us a sense of being elevated, with the views upwards and downwards.
Great light and pattern details.
My warm regards,

Hi deasr Craig
Well I must say that this is surprising. I thought of Iceland as being full of ice, waterfalls and geysers. And that was it. So your city shots are a revelation for me. This opera house is pretty impressive, and being an "opera house expert" I'm kind of spoilt when it comes to that, but really appreciate the lines, the graphism and skill that has gone into building this wonderful place. Yes, the inclusion of the person for scale is necessary and the capture of not just the staircase, but also the glass walls and ceiling was a great idea too.
Thanks for sharing, have a good night

Craig, this is quite a building. I love the geometry of this shot, between the windows to the left, the ceiling, and the stairs. This looks like a great open space, and the stairs serve as a focal point for the photo, guiding our eyes up to the corner of the building. Nicely done. Thanks.

WOW,it´s as cool as the Gehry´s roof construction in Seattle.Amazing piece of architecture...and something I wouldn´t expect in Iceland.
I think you couldn´t choose better time of the day to capture it.The early blue hour is a great backdrop for the modern architecture and it also gives superb contrast to so nicely lit up interior.
Have a good day

SWEETFREEDOM (23084) 2013-04-19 9:37
fascinating interiors, interesting also the ws. as you write the man gives us a size scale. great light management.
CLODO (31192) 2013-04-19 10:08
good use of your wide zoom to emphasis the perspective, and I agree with you, the human presence is a bonus to give the scale but also to fix the eye.
Spend a good WE

Not that I have ever been in Iceland yet, but Rejkavik has a name as a young and hip city as has its inhabitants. Your picture of the amazing Opera house conveys that hip feeling perfectly. The structure is a very good example of the modern scandinavian architecture that can be found not only in Rejkavik but also in Oslo, Stockholm or Helsinki.
have a good weekend
jcpix (13724) 2013-04-19 17:20
You undoubtedly have a keen eye for composition, this is another strong reminder of just that! With so many options it would appear, you've managed to bring them all together in a single shot that has an awesome effect on the visual senses. The honeycomb pattern of the glass wall is striking and is impossible not to grab your attention, but it's the hard lead in line from the stairs that I like the most here...it feels to just pull me right into that focal point. Killer image, amazing as always! Hope you have a great weekend, thanks for sharing the view from the Opera House.
All the best,
vjmite (3988) 2013-04-20 3:45
This is a nice geometrical shot, with great details on both the wall and ceiling. Nice and sharp with good depth of field. The slight variations in the honeycomb pattern are interesting.
