Where do I even begin to talk about this one?!
What a story behind it!!
This is a rusted out relic of a truck that's sitting on the property of some old rusted relic of a mansion on the hillside - as it caught my attention from the highway. I noted the city as Vik, but truly speaking its in the middle of nowhere, many miles east after Vik, and with no city for about 100 km.
I think I will leave the unbelievable story for my next post, as to what happened to us on this property while taking photos. Perhaps tomorrow or the next day I will post a scene of the abandoned Mansion to the right of the rusted truck, you'll want to hear it for sure :)
For now, this old blue and red truck was certainly calling my name, especially with the blue sky and white clouds and the brown grass - it was a total surprise seen from the highway and it turned out to be one of my favorite memories from the trip.
Thanks for looking

Hello Craig - Your note has piqued my interest and I am looking forward to the next instalment! Love this. Perfect with the WA lens pulling out the clouds and amazing how the blue of sky and truck are so perfectly matched. The orange adds a great contrast and pulls in the eye. Super shot, atmospheric and a pleasure to see. Warm regards Rosemary

Your capture of this truch has given a real element of life to the rusted old husk, and in saying life, I mean creepy life! The way the truck lines up with the lines of cloud in the sky is a perfect composition, and has an almost 3D effect. Love the colours of the truck too. Looking forward to seeing the mansion, one of my favourite subjects :)
All the best
smarcell (19963) 2013-03-26 6:54
a picture that returns a sense of wide space, also due to the wide angle view. The patterns of clouds in the sky seem to converge to the same point.
timecapturer (47388) 2013-03-26 7:14
this is a stunner! I love your POV and the real sense of a tale to tell about this rusty old truck. All the elements are here and perfectly placed, all it needed was an engineer in composition and photographic technique to make this a winning shot and Boy! you have excelled yourself. I love it!
Regards - Brian

I understand why this truck caught your attention. Its colors contrast greatly with the brown toned surroundings and if there was no village around its presence might surprise a little bit. Good POV and lovely sky providing background.
Nice quality photo and interesting content.
Thanks for sharing

I like classic cars, but this is a real beauty. It looks like a commercial shot. It stands proud and you really captured it with great passion. I also like the colour, but more the light way how it stands there.
Have a nice evening,

very interesting note and picture. I like your composition and the perfect sharpness and colors.Very well done.TFS.

so now it's your turn, haha...
Well, I wouldn't call this "every man's wish", neither it is "sleek and sexy", lol, but man, it does "grab your attention" and how! And I must say the merit here is all yours, not this rusty monster's - the way you captured the scene with the clouds rushing out from beneath the horizon, the awesome colors (the saturation's spot on!), the position of the truck in the frame and the super rendering of that fantastic texture of the brown grass (love this earthy color!) - everything's perfect! I think it's time you think about organizing your personal exhibit.:)
Cricri (104347) 2013-03-26 11:03
Génial ce vieux camion, la rouille qui ce mélange au couleurs, le paysage immense, désertique, sauvage, sous un ciel et oui magnifique, je me réjouie de voir la prochaine image :-)

Beautiful old truck in the artic toundra Craig,
Like the sky, good sharpnes, so fine colors
holmertz (39467) 2013-03-26 11:46
This reminds me of several pictures I've seen of rusty old trucks abandoned in the desert of Namibia, and probably Australia too. Seems like a funny coincidence that the same kind of vehicles are left for eternity in similar environments in such distant places on earth. The colors of this truck, and the surroundings, are really amazing, and those thin clouds are pretty nice too. Can't wait to hear the story you have promised us :-).
Silvio1953 (119531) 2013-03-26 11:59
Ciao Craig, fashinating old truck in a beautiful landscape, lovely composition with superb sky, wonderful colors, excellent clarity and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

This is how I remember Iceland. Big empty space with some glaciers on the horizon. Thanks for posting this.
mesutilgim (82236) 2013-03-26 14:10
Quite "tasty" capture of this old truck !
It gives the impression of an artwork under a nice blue and cloudy sky.
TFS and best regards
Romano46 (16586) 2013-03-26 14:38
in questa non manca di certo il colore che, al contrario, ben saturo somina la scena.
Un soggetto originale che si sposa molto bene con la natura aspra che lo circonda e che serve ottimamente allo scopo di distogliere lo sguardo dalla presenza di questa.
Ciao e buona notte
delpeoples (52897) 2013-03-26 16:59
You know I thought that THIS would be your favourite photo of the trip! It's certainly mine so far. But then again, I've seen your NOrthern Lights photos on FB so when you finally upload them, they'll be my favourites :)
This really lends itself to HDR. I couldn't think of a more appropriate subject for it. The colours are mad and combined with the low POV, the amazing clouds radiating out of the horizon and the funky texture of the grass, this photo should be in a magazine!
PS: Never seen a lighthouse shot in Aus before??? Huh, obviously my ones that you critiqued were completely forgettable ;))) hehehehehe
lousat (74937) 2013-03-26 17:11
Woow Craig, there is always a great surpise to see in your gallery, and now you show us another fantastic example! Great point of view to create this surrounding perspective around the truck, spectacular work in PP too.Today i was in Barcelona whit Juan JFS and i discover that it is a great great fan of your HDR ! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Again I have to wonder if you just dragged Tosca along to every abandoned item you could find in the Icelandic wilderness here, Craig. And so far, in all three cases, I'm glad you did - some really evocative subjects here, including this rusted wreck in great wide angle perspective. The colors are wonderfully vivid, and what a sky! It appears, despite your initial worry, that you really wound up with some great weather, and that you made good use of it. Is there a story behind the white sheet tied around the passenger mirror here?
saxo042 (37220) 2013-03-26 18:51
Quite fantastic to find this old wreck in the middle of nowhere. A strelie landscape and this colourful relic suddenly turns up. Even the clouds add interest to the picure. This is indeed a picture of Icelandic loneliness. Did you read anything of Arnaldur Indridason?
Sonata11 (33223) 2013-03-26 20:22
spectacular view. Wonderfully executed image with magnificent colors, sharpness, clarity. Eye catching this old truck with red, blue and rusty colors. I like your POV and DOF as well. Love it. Tfs. An excellent work as always.
jjcordier (75114) 2013-03-26 23:06
Un de tes sujets favoris que tu as magnifiquement mis en image ici. Le cadrage, le ciel, la lumière et les couleurs sont vraiment excellents.
emka (76305) 2013-03-26 23:29
After the hut, crashed airplane and now this rusted truck, I wait for the abandoned bike and wrecked ship. Probably I will not see any waterfall or geyser :)). This is a fine discovery of yours. I am looking forward to reading the creepy story about what happened there.
CLODO (29914) 2013-03-27 2:32
I am amazed to see that you spent a lot of money to travel Iceland and take picture of rusty planes and lorries!
The lorry stands out of the yellow grass and the clouds seem to issue from it. even if you are at f5.6, the use of the wide angle allows a large DOF.
lgir (6879) 2013-03-27 2:43
The environment and the light on this old rusty truck, highlight stunning colors.
Nicou (119375) 2013-03-27 3:19
quelle épave de camion merveilleux dans ce décor au milieu de nulle part quelle rouille et couleur avec le ciel en mouvement grandiose photo.
Bravo et amitié
krzychu30 (15440) 2013-03-27 3:35
now you´ve made me really curious about the story behind.Did you find it really accidentally while driving the highway?or did you learn about it in internet?Anyway the scene looks magnificent and you prove us again how picturesque for photography can be such old, rusted cars.I love also the whole backdrop for the scene-the sky and barren land.
Have a good day
jhm (137548) 2013-03-27 6:24
This is a remarkable find, I think an old Volvo.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect made.
A splendid panorama view about these area.
Excellent composition, pleasant colours. TFS.
dkmurphys (48088) 2013-03-27 6:55
Wonderful dead carcass! I like the rusty colors and the high quality POV. Well done!
ktanska (24562) 2013-03-27 13:03
Getting close to old wrecks is clearly your trademark!
Rust makes this more interesting, but those blue and red colours reveal that this old Scania was quite a character already on it's active days. (Easy to see it's a Scania, those "eyelashes" are unique.)
Dry hay of wintertime reminds quite much desert landscapes, I certainly like that too.
Gigidusud (14655) 2013-03-27 14:39
Amazing shot!Nice scene with the rusty old truck in the middle of field.Splendid effect and nice colors.I like a lot!
Royaldevon (28341) 2013-03-28 1:09
The picture and the prospect of the story certainly capture the imagination!
The brightly coloured wreck is certainly at odds with the environment. It surprised me too, for I have gained the impression that Icelend is prisine, little litter or debris.
It makes a fine focal image for photography. You have positioned it well and created excelllent sky details with your wide angled lens.
Have a lovely day,
fabbs99 (16151) 2013-03-28 2:41
Great shot Craig
Very sharp and crisp.
Graal (96418) 2013-03-28 12:27
amazing "portrait" here. Fine view of wreck of the car. Great sky and background. I like the colours also.
Have a nice evening.
serp2000 (39248) 2013-03-28 12:40
This composition reminds me similar photos our friends from Australia, South Africa... Good capture of a human heritage on the islands.
Well done. I am going to plane just now.
jcpix (13362) 2013-03-28 16:51
I'm a little late to the party on this one...but let me just say...wow! Now this is a cool shot, I can totally see this featured in a magazine or book. What a terrific find too, takes a keen eye to spot the things that most would never give a second thought. The use of the wide angle, the placement of the truck, the spot on exposure...man, it's all just perfect! These rusted out kinds of objects have so much character and color to explore...you must have had a field day out there in no mans land. A truly impressive photo, compliments a plenty on this beauty! Have a great evening.
All the best,
ChrisJ (95742) 2013-03-28 23:40
Perfect sharpness here with a fantastic warm cold colour contrast between the rust red vehicle (which has seen better days), and the blue sky and bonnet. A very minor quibble, I would have tried to place the 2/3 spacing over on the right as that is the direction the truck is pointed towards. I tried a crop at left but you lose those snowcapped peaks top left which add depth. Apart from that all is (very) well! Tfs!
Hansaphotos (6593) 2013-03-29 10:24
This one is awesome. A wonderful combination of the fantastic landscape and the old rusty truck. It strikes me that the old truck is painted in the same colours as the Icelandic flag - what a beauty! You have a knack for finding those old rusty wrecks in beautiful surroundings. Excellent work! TFS. I wish you a happy Easter.
Best regards, Erling
bayno (18342) 2013-03-29 21:57
I read the story in your next post about this strange place, I like the theme of this your shot, excellent color rendering and light, a spectacular sky and details really excellent....wonderful shot...
greetings from Goa...
Schnappilic (9690) 2013-03-30 5:05
A splendid framing using a ultra wide lenses. Best result with beautiful sky. Congratulations!
InasiaJones (31448) 2013-03-30 8:48
On this shot, the sky is awesome and glorify your wide angle lens. And the blue parts of the truck create the link with the sky. Awesome!
I like to see the landscape stretching itself in the background, and the fact that you have let the frame breathing, in this particular context. The only minor thing that I would have done differently is to allow more space between the bumper and the frame, as I feel it is too close, considering the sense of space that you have infused in your shot.
abmdsudi (41936) 2013-03-31 1:24
There's a stunning contrast between the rusty vehicle against the rugged background and blue sk, and that makes the shot. Great compo, perspective and clarity.
Bluejeans (64247) 2013-04-01 5:18
Ola Craig ,
Brutal esta tua foto :) , muito bom uso da lente 8mm , um belo céu com este velho camião em primeiro plano , bom contraste de cores, parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo
artesia (959) 2013-04-01 8:49
Well.. surely the truck called you, knowing you'll capture it in such a dramatic way. It does caught my attention among other latest photos you captured.
Perfect usage of your ultra wide angle shot. It's been a long time since I visit TE, but this photo made it all worth it to check my dear friend again :-)
Hope you well and sending you warm greetings from Indonesia.... I'm dying to visit Iceland.
Angshu (55259) 2013-04-02 2:44
You use the wide lens masterfully & the 'delicious' pictures you share, almost makes me yearn for a wide lens. But its very expensive & for a hobby photographer like me, makes little sense. Maybe later...:-)
This is a fine picture, turning the mundane object of an old junk truck sitting on old dead grass land, as a fine work of art...I like this a lot!
PS : As regards being getting a chance to meet you when you & your girlfriend plan to visit my country....would be my pleasure! As for being a guide, that would depend on which part of India you plan to see...India's a big country & I stay in the West :-)
tyro (19734) 2013-04-05 1:09
Just trying to catch up on some critiquing after a short absence! And this is a most impressive photograph which really appeals to me too.
If I hadn't seen your discussion with Lisa, I would have thought too that this was definitely an HDR image - the whole picture just shouts out "HDR" to me - but then we were both completely wrong!
Excellent composition (aided by your "favourite" lens), stunning depth of field and sharpness and glorious colours which make this old wrecked vehicle stand out wonderfully against the drab ground cover and the amazing blue sky.
Nard (6970) 2013-04-10 1:50
I like this kind of picture showing old used things lost nowhere and telling us a story. Here I like also the 2 tones and the repetition of the blue.
rigoletto (34255) 2013-04-21 6:28
Man, you are fast as Speedy Gonzales, both in travelling and uploading photos! I remember writing to your bus station only like a couple of weeks ago, but till then you have filled a full page in your galley plus a visit to Iceland!
The best photos from there was from Anes_lc and you enrichen the Icelandic gallery further more.
This abandoned truck and the icy clouds up there create a great opportunity for wide angle and bang! you did it.
Wonderful colors, the pp work is marvellous and i love that desolate feeling in there. Iceland has always been on my wish list, hopefully one day...
Wanda1 (14980) 2013-06-18 10:19
I see that you have been very busy traveling to wonderful far flung destinations.
I like this old colourful wreck and your use of wide angle enhances its feel of being in isolation and desolation and I like that feeling of wide open space with big sky and big landscape. Lovely light illuminating it seems to bring it to life.
