Earlier I posted a picture from Breidárlon, a glacier lake by the glacier Vatnajökull, I you go a bit futher along road 1 you will come to the most famous glacier lake on Iceland; Jökulsárlon.
Here it is possible to actually come closer to the icebergs, by boat for example. However this particular picture is taken from the shoreline.

The weather was very "icelandic", with low clouds and mist. At Jökulsárlon it have been raining for a couple of days we were told, and therefore the icebergs and glacier had this intense blue tone.

The lake has grown very quickly, in the thirties there were no lake at all here.
Not only the global warming has caused this phenomenon, mostly it is the salt water form the sea that make the ice melt faster and faster.
The lake is about 5 square kilometres big and actually goes in under the glacier for 20 kilometres!
Several kind of fish can be found in the lake and you can have it for dinner in the small restaurant beside the parking lot.

This is a truly spectacular place, and if you are going to visit I strongly suggest you to not only be on the tourist side of the lake, go around it, explore it. It is pure magic.

Well Frida, you certainly managed to let it look like magic. This is a fantastic photo. Very good and careful PP work. It's like time is frozen.

I like how the light blue/green stands out from the surroundings. I also really like the shapes and the semitransparent ice at the front. Well composed.

Such a pretty photo, colors are so interesting. Good job!

Fantastic, so mystic. The bright green as the only colorspot in this grey and wet world. WOW. I like the "high horison" with the big mirror in front.

Frida, WOW!!! I have the illusion as though I'm standing there. Now this is what we mean about not only taking a picture, what's different about it, well, you did it, you brought us in. Crisp, crisp, crisp, this is what I would hang on my wall!!!! Oh yeah, by the way, i'll be putting it in my faves. Thanks for giving us some Iceland.

Mike

Très très belle photo.
J'aime beaucoup la couleur noire de l'eau, dans laquelle se reflète des icebergs de couleurs différentes.
Bravo.

Nice shot Frida, It is so calm and crisply sharp that the frigidity of the scene is perfectly displayed, from the still black water through the white of the bergs to the clear ice.
Great image

Wow! Great colors Frida! The atmosphere of this shot is so special. Peaceful and mysterious in the same time. Calm water permits to have a superb reflection of the ice. I find the colors of ice contrast each with the others.

I'm appreciate your giant ice/mint .. very refreshing .. do you want to drink with me ?
Santé !!

Excellent picture, very nice contrasts of colors. This picture remember me my travel in Patagonia. Well done !

Wow, this is another spectacular one, Frida. "Magical" is not an exaggeration when talking about this - the reflections, the colors, the light ... Great how the green and blue hues stand out amongst the almost b&w surroundings. Very good one. I really have to travel to Iceland one day, thanks for the motivation :-)

The colours are so special... Are they normal or you have make a post processing??? If they are natural, you are lucky to have seen this.
Well done Frida.

très intéressant comme cliché! couleur superbes et composition au top!!

J'aime les couleurs et le cadrage est parfait , une composition merveilleuse et tres spectaculaire .

It looks like a view from another planet because of the strange purple colors, and the contrast with the neon-blue ice. And it's beautiful. Well done, Frida.

Very good shot, Frida! I like the composition a lot, but what I really find very appealing is the fact that you have a lot of shades of different colourtones in the grey's; it's not like really coloured, byt mere hints of colours. And then you got that big chunk of ice just....BAM...like right in your face! What a colour! Good stuff!

Landscape? spacescape? anyway, other-worldly. We'll see what Claude brings back from Iceland. very nice.

This photograph is also pure magic. You've given us a glimpse of the magnificent scenery with its many colors and textures. Well done.

Spectacular place; surrealistic image, great composition: the Earth before or after the man.

If the landscape is "touched" by a wizard...
So beautiful, the weather which brings a fantastic light and colours. The reflections are also great and I like the ice in the foreground. Very, very nice shot of these jewels of earth.
And now Frida, the restaurant, they must have something for me....

It's your Sign,Frida:)
And great result and unique atmosphere you creat, very well done, amazing nature, wonderful colors, too.very cold and mysterious atmosphere, wow!
I like it,nicely captured and well composed,Frida.

This is an amazing shot. The turquoise color of the ice is incredible and contrasts with the dark water and sky. I've never been to Iceland but this really makes me want to go there.

I like the superb reflections & tonal range in this splendid image. The contrast betweent hje black ice top left & vclear translucent ice bottom right is striking. Well done!

Hi Frida, this photo is superb, first the so calm water acts as a natural mirror, then the reflection is excellent. Sharpness and colors are great too, with special mention for the ice tone tending to the green range. Your note is excellent too.

Great, great shot!!
Stupenda trasparenza del ghiaccio, luce fredda e molto convincente dell'ambiente fotografato, interessantissimi i pezzi di ghiaccio incolori in primo piano!!

Fantastic shot, this looks like something from a different world. Love the reflections as well.

One of my favourite photos i've seen on this site! Very happy you've shared this with us. :o

IMHO this is your best photo in TE. It is unbeliveble colors. Fantastic composition. It makes that I want to go to Iceland.

Great Photo Frida. There is almost a metallic feel. 3D even. I love the depth and could nearly put my hand into it.

what am beauty colours... well done!

A really interesting and 'good to look at' image - I keep playing with the bottom eighth maybe and wondering whether the picture looks better cropped slightly in this direction but i love the way the foreground and the background isolate and set off the ice. ...and those colours!

Worderful!!
I can't believe you was there!!!

Magic shot! Maybe a panoramic view would be even better, because the gaps would be out of the image, but what I see is so relaxing and spectacular at the same time. Regards.

Great picture! What a iced blue! Light is strange and contrasts are striking! I like northern atmosphere... Superb!

Excellent view and framing.
The light and colour looks so unrealy to me.
I have to go there to believe it.

this picture is the best of a an already fantastic collection on iceland.

Amazing tones of dark water and blue ice!!

fred

Hello Frida. Your photo is spectacular. I like very much the reflections on water. The colors are very interesting and the light is strange but very beautiful in this landscape. And it seems so cold, very good job.
