After a small introduction with a view on Scottish Highlands from the air, I really start my collection about this second trip to Iceland ! We arrived the day before in Reykjvavik, sad weather, cloudy and cold (7°C). On our first day we planned to visit Reykjanes peninsula in the south of Reykjavik, but the weather forecasts were really bad ... So we improvised and finally decided to go to the north where the weather foresctasts were a lot better. And it was a good choice !
So here we are along the road 1 about 50 kilometres north of Borgarnes, in Nordurárdalur valley. We crossed lava fields and finally stopped at Grábrókargígar craters. These craters are protected as natural monuments since 1962. It has two craters, Stóra Grábrók and Grábrókarfell. A third one, Litla Grábrók, used to exist, but it has mostly disappeared due to mining operations before the site was protected. An easy path drives you top of Stóra Grábrók crater and this is where I took this picture Grábrókarfell crater from. The craters are the most eastern ones of Ljósufjöll volcanic system which belongs to the Snaefellsnes volcanic zone. It is a peripheral zone, i.e. it is not part of the atlantic rift zone that crosses Iceland. It is believed these craters are younger than 3,600 years. Lava from the craters covers large proportion of the Nordurárdalur valley.

Salut Olivier ,
Un remaquable paysage volcanique , avec ce photogénique petit (?)cratère au premier plan . Le ciel moutonneux est magnifique .
Il n'a pas du faire très chaud , pendant ton séjour ?

Hello Olivier, very nice image here. From what i've heard, Iceland got some spectacular landscapes and for sure this is one of them. Good sharpness on the shot as well as the high POV that allows you to get the whole area. Good take.

This is extraordinarily landscape picture, also the a lot mountain in background cares for pleasant picture.
But you play excellent with light and shade.
Composition and sharpness are pleasant.
Very well done, TFS.
Have nice Sunday,

very impressive landscape. I like volcanic landscapes very much they make you feel like you were on the moon. This crater here makes such impression as well.
Very good POV to present this one. The weather was pleasant for a hike but difficult as the light was very dispersed and then everything appears a bit grayer than it is. That is my problem in England most of the time.
In any case one would not expect such a view from Europe.
I am looking forward to seeing your whole reportage,
