This photo was done near waterfalls Hraunfossar of the river Hvítá (Borgarfjörður) in the west of Iceland seem to come out directly of a lava field, the Hallmundarhraun which was caused by an eruption of one of the volcanoes lying under the glacier Langjökull. Hence the name, hraun meaning lava in Icelandic. There are a lot of rivulets streaming out of the lava at a length of about 900 meters. The Hraunfossar are situated near Húsafell and Reykholt in the west of the island.
Directly beside them, there is another waterfall called Barnafoss. Its name, the waterfall of the children, comes from an accident which is said to have taken place here in former times. There was a natural bridge over the waterfall and two children seem to have fallen from it into the river and died. Afterwards, the mother had the bridge destroyed. |

Hello Michael,
I like a lot the effect of the long exposure on the river and the use of someone in the frame to give the scale. The global lightning is nice due to the clouds providing a grey sky.
However, I would have prefer not to have the tree in the bottom left of the photo. I think the reading of the river would have been better.
Yves
Hi Mike,
I sort of agree with Yves about the tree, but feel that there should be something in the foreground to go along with the snow. Also, maybe a slightly longer exposure would have really smoothed out that water creating even more a contrast between the water and the sharp cliff face. The red in the cliff is perfectly placed within frame. Great shot.

Michael,
I agree with the the previous critiques: love the red, not sure about the tree. An intriguing upload. Thanks.
