I chose the title Paradise because thats what it felt like to me when I visited the famous Blue Lagoon.
I'm sure you've all heard about the Blue Lagoon just outside of Reykjavik. This is a Geothermal Spa, where you can soak in the hot waters, about 98-102 degrees, outside in the cold weather and relax :)
This photo here isn't the actual large spa lagoon area where the people are - but at the blue lagoon there are walking trails, similar to hiking trails. These small trails that encompass the Blue Lagoon walk you through the local area and you can see scenes just like this - basically moss covered lava fields with glowing blue water!
Very cool indeed. After walking around the trails taking photo's for about 1 Hour, we then went to the Spa area and spent another couple hours dipping in the hot water - which looks exactly like this bright blue.
It was fun because there we were in the hot bright neon blue water, smoke and steam everywhere, then it began to snow :) And we were not even the least bit cold, it was very hot.
Taking a relaxing Spa soak in Geothermal Mineral Rich waters while its snowing....can't get any better than that in Iceland :)
I'll try to find a photo of the actual spa area and post that as the WS

Beautiful and rough surrounding. Also nice
are the contrast between the colors in the
picture and it has a sky that fits very
well. Also great is the quality of the

En effet, la couleur de l'eau est très surprenante surtout dans cet environnement de pierres et de ciel gris. On dirait qu'elle ressort du centre de la terre plutôt que par l'environnement extérieur.

Of course I know about the geothermal baths on Iceland, but I can't recall seeing any pictures like these. They provide amazing views. The contrasts of the grey sky, the rough and unwelcoming brown rocks and that miraculously light blue water are really stunning.

I can see why you titled this paradise, beautiful. Very sharp with amazing details. Slides a little to the left for me but stunning. A place I must visit. Well done.
timecapturer (49288) 2013-04-20 6:15
a fascinating series of images which really look amazing full size. Very atmospheric and an excellent capture of this astonishing place. Assume the temperatures are in Fahrenheit! (Celsius would be ;-o).
Enjoy the weekend - Brian.

You submitted a very intriguing title for this post. For me a paradise means something different however if you like it I'm really fine:)
The landscape is fantastic and awesome with its unique nature and cold tones. Perfectly executed image. TFS.

it does look amazing and out of this world, stil I wouldn't call it paradise. It's just a bit too rough and ascetic for that:)) Not many people will endure its pleasures long enough without God's help;)
Perfect quality picture, can't deny that.
Have a happy weekend
chrisvek (7001) 2013-04-20 7:35

Beautiful pov on this strange place, Great contrast between water and dark rocks around, the light capture is perfectly managed, tfs.

The sheen on the blue lake is brilliant, it looks almost like milk. I suspect Cleopatra would like it here! I love the whole otherworldiness of this scene, like looking deep into space at a place with green rocks and neon blue water. The sky adds a fantastic mood to the image too. I did visit the spa years ago, but I did not know about the walking trails, so thanks for sharing this cool shot.
All the best

It seems another planet, impressive textures and colors, total quietness, a place to not forget ever.
kennyblack (4207) 2013-04-20 12:08
Fantastic landscape with beautiful colors and light. The beautiful reflection of the clouds gives a special feature to the whole 'picture. Beautiful and sharp details. Great job Craig.
The best greetings, have a nice evening ... Marino

This is something truly unique. The scenery, and color of the water are amazing. I really like the WS photo showing people enjoying the spa. I can only imagine that you must be freezing once you get out of the water and step back into the snowy and cold air! It sure must get your blood flowing. :-)
ACL1978 (7511) 2013-04-20 20:45
Hey Craig - the Blue Lagoon really is amazing, isn't it! It was the subject of one of the very first shots I posted on TE, almost a year ago: here. When we visited it was about 55 degrees (about 13C) and just starting to rain, and having the cold air above and then sinking into the warm water was actually quite exhilarating. Nice shot of one of the outlining areas... looks so much like the moon here! One of the most bizarre environments I've seen. The workshops are awesome, especially the one of the spa from up high. Makes me want to go back!
jjcordier (79297) 2013-04-20 22:11
krzychu30 (15512) 2013-04-21 1:25
your title says everything.Although the surrounding looks barren and raw the water and its amazing and unique color makes the scene appear to us like a paradise(perhaps also because the contrast here is so expressive and strong).
I´m also glad to see different POV of this famous place(what we usually see from Blue Lagoon is the view you provided us in your second shot in WS).
Brilliant capture Craig!I like the wide-angle perspective and also the overall graphical effect you achieved here(textures of these rock formations look great).
Have a good sunday
ikeharel (72955) 2013-04-21 5:45
Most known Spa in Iceland is much bigger, but this pic. show a barren vulcanic rocks and hot water pond in the "wild".
Long shutter created a marvelous effect on water-surface, and in great contrast to the black rocks surrounding.
Well composed, impressive nature's scene.
Have a nice Sunday,
npecanhuk (75592) 2013-04-21 6:17
That's certainly a unique natural detail!
I love the color of that water, but the whole place looks sort of strange though as if it were from another planet, where "monsters" live... LOL!
TFS - congrats,
rigoletto (34279) 2013-04-21 6:34
Now i am going to purchase a ticket to Reykjavik!
Though i still remember a disaster movie where some poor guys got boiled by the sudden burst of lava coming from the source of spa they were dipping in :P
Besides, this icy blue rather seems cool than boiling hot :)
marabu61 (11061) 2013-04-21 12:57
Ah yes, now looking on your workshop photo I remember having seen this on the telly at sometimes.
But I much prefer this small puddle, it is more authentic. The water has an intriguing color that looks almost like smoke and looks bizarre in that barren landscape under the laden sky.
have a good start to the new week
Sonata11 (33903) 2013-04-21 20:47
I really enjoy this spectacular view, very well done with contrasts, light , colors, sharpness to emphasize the mood of this place. I like it. Tfs,

Nice composition, well showing the Iceland I experimented during my trips there: blue icy lake inside an ocean of green under cloudy sky.
rogerl (1616) 2013-04-22 5:47
Craig, this place was on my list before you posted this, and is even more so now. We hope to get there next summer. Great clarity here; the water looks almost milky. The only thing this is missing is something for scale - I really have no idea how big it all is. Thanks.
bukitgolfb301 (42732) 2013-04-22 14:25
Hi dear Craig, how are you?
Wow another significant panfocus image in so tasetful color / light touch in your high sense! Great widefocus has realized so sharp and clear prsentation indeed. So fantastic and a little mysterious atmosphere is so well prsented.
Thanks for your sharing and have a good day!
jcpix (13930) 2013-04-22 20:14
Really cool! This is a great contrast of elements, the rugged and darker landscape combined with a peaceful and still body of water. That turquoise color is amazing, especially against the moody sky. I can only imagine how nice it was to soak in these types of springs while the weather was bitter and cold...relaxation at its finest. :) The hint of sunlight along the background is sublime, the whole thing is kind of surreal. Glad you had the chance to enjoy the benefits, and thanks for sharing the view with us. Have a great day.
All the best,

Ola Craig ,
Que paisagem interessante com esta lagoa azul e em redor esta paisagem vulcânica , bom contraste , interessante SPA ao ar livre :) , parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo
mkamionka (37843) 2013-04-24 6:50
the title somehow does not fit the picture.
It looks actually more like hell with dark rocks, heavy clouds and unclear boiling water...
But I know what you mean: I would really like to visit this place someday. I have seen before plenty of pictures of spa which is pleasant but too civilized for a photo but I am glad they have preserved as well some natural fragments of it so that one can admire the views like this here.
Very unearthly -and that is the best complement I can think of for a landscape phoography.
claudeD (39635) 2013-05-31 8:31
amazing picture with an excellent composition and much atmosphere. I like the view very much.Very well done.TFS.

When I see your photos from this country, I remember "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" movie. Did you see this one?
Wow! Amazing contrast of the cold northern climate and the hot lakes. It reminds me Kamchatka, in Far East of Russia (but you know it ;) ). Thanks for informative note.
I am going to next tour to Philippines and Guam on Saturday. ))
