Sorry if i'm boring you with my theme of abandoned cars, trucks, homes and boats - but I just love it so much :)
I find it also compliments my theme from Iceland of wide open spaces, as these homes are usually just that, on land thats wide open, acres upon acres of empty space.
We found this home on our last day, just a few hours before flying back to Canada. I remember looking inside, very cramped, very dirty, ragged couches, items all over the floor...everything that I love :)
I'm just happy there was nobody inside this time!!!
That was scary!
Hope you like this HDR version.

The wide angle lens and your point of view
give a nice charming effect. Composition
is also excellent.
After making the picture: did you clean

Hello Craig ,
No problem , that is not boring me , becuase I like this theme , too ;)
You've taken this curious abandoned house from an excellent angle of view , and the chosen distortion provides a very good effect .
Well done .
willperrett (11456) 2013-04-11 1:46
Your choice of extreme wide-angle gives an extra dimension to this photograph. Don't worry about boring us with your current theme of abandonment: it's a very rich seam to mine.
Nice title for an excellent photograph. I don't actually know why abandoned places make such popular, and good, subjects for photography, though it's an interest I share with you. The equivalent of a smart suburban house just wouldn't have the same impact.
Baudelaire said, "everything that the big city threw away, everthing it lost, everything it despised, everything it crushed underfoot, he (the artist) catalogues and collects... He sorts things out and makes a wise choice, he collects, like a miser guarding a treasure, the refuse which will assume the shape of useful or gratifying objects..."
Or Susan Sontag: "(The photographer's) acuity was directed to finding beautiful what other people found ugly or without interest and relevance - bric-a-brac, naive or pop objects, urban debris. Photographic seeing meant an aptitude for discovering beauty in what everybody sees but neglects as too ordinary. Photographers were supposed to do more than just see the world as it is... they were to create interest by new visual decisions."
I expect they're right!

Hi Craig, you know oow to have the best from these situations, the pov and the perspective are really beautiful,no needs other words but only a great standing ovation, your style is unmistakable.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

I like the point of view and the space given over to the sky, which makes a superb backdrop for the rather dilapidated house. Top class technical presentation.
timecapturer (49288) 2013-04-11 3:32
loving this X certificate theme. It makes for really fascinating viewing with a strong atmosphere that can only come from decay and neglect. A superb POV that makes this old ruin all the more compelling and disturbingly imposing. As usual a lot of thought has gone into the composition and use of HDR to emphasise the effect.
Regards - Brian.
Noel_Byrne (32536) 2013-04-11 3:55
this looks brilliant as HDR, and teh viewpoint you have chosen really makes this look like the cover from a ghost film! Brilliant effect. I can imagine your relief that this place was unoccupied, as a fellow fan of abandoned places, I can only imagine the fright to find someboudy lurching out at you from one of these spooky locations. Really great shot, and the landscape around it adds a lot to the whole vibe.

I have been looking for deserted houses that i can get access to the inside so i can photograph inside, i am green with envy.
nice composition of a building with loads of character.

Very attractive and truly interesting picture with special regards to the vertical format, chosen pov, composition and exposure! Great sky!

There is always a worry when you share holiday photographs that the viewers may become bored with your theme. Believe me, when shots are this good, no-one will tire of them!
Old houses always seem to be hiding a story, they excite our imagination.
Your lens has given this one a particular character, it is almost calling for help. You have composed the whole scene really well, giving natural progression from f/g to b/g.
Have a lovely day,
JFS (32459) 2013-04-11 4:28
A nice and quiet place to stay but there is no IKEA close...Pity! The image fascinates me, I feel like beeing there, not in the house!

Ola Craig ,

lregoli (491) 2013-04-11 5:41
Great shot. Already the color range was enough to create an interesting image, but the lens distortion really added a lot.
Thanks for sharing! Best regards,

bona (13737) 2013-04-11 8:49
to me you can continue uwith the theme, I'm really liking. You have a good I eye and skills for this kind of theme. Lovely sky color and I like the grass, it seems moving.
Janusz1974 (2824) 2013-04-11 10:08
Very good composition in strong atmosphere and moods, bring back a lot of old memory for the place!
good clarity, perfect colouration and details
marabu61 (11189) 2013-04-11 11:34
Yeah, lucky this time nobody was home, as I still remember your last story from a supposedly abandoned house.
Funny enough this house has its charm and makes for a great photograph. It must be your angle or the gorgeous sky that makes it, I am not sure, but it is definitively alluring.
have a good evening

Ciao Craig, lovely composition with beautiful house, superb sky, excellent clarity, splendid light and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Ottimo taglio verticale e bellissimi colori.
jcpix (13930) 2013-04-11 16:20
After your amusing story from the other house, the title of this one couldn't be better! :) This would be a great shot regardless, but the wide angle really takes it up a notch, the perspective is fantastic. I'm always drawn to these kinds of rustic and textured subjects, I completely understand the attraction. There's so much character, and even some charm with a vacant old place such as this. I like that you've included so much sky, the faint clouds fill the space nicely and add an extra little engaging effect. Awesome find and presentation from this empty lot!
All the best,
Graal (103036) 2013-04-11 23:07
interesting serie from Iceland. Amazing ruin here. Good documental shot. Nice pattern of delicacy clouds on the blue sky in BG.
Have a nice day.
serp2000 (45062) 2013-04-11 23:07
I like your report from Iceland. This is very interesting photo series, excellent one! Good use of special lens. The twisted house looks more original.
Have you ever seen Bjork on the islands, for example? ))
krzychu30 (15512) 2013-04-12 0:55
for me it´s a great combination of photographed subject and wide-angle lens you used here, which makes the scene so successful.Really like it in such wide vertical format. It only intensify this "scary" feeling here.
The sky contributes in my opinion also to this feeling(it´s like in some horror movies where the sky moves fast creating thereby more gloomy atmosphere).I have the same feeling here.
Btw.it looks equally spooky as my Hostel in Hong Kong:)
Wish You all the best
manrezaei (1837) 2013-04-12 0:56
An interesting photo. The clarity, perspective and sharpness very well managed. Very well done.
sevy (58) 2013-04-12 4:07
Good composition with a big part of the frame given to the sky. It is reinforcing the feeling of loneliness already given by the abandoned house.
emka (102606) 2013-04-12 13:30
Hi Craig, Are in Iceland only abandoned cars, houses and boats?? Rather scary view. Interesting distortions.
Today I go for the first encounter with crocodiles. They will be really scary, I think.
annjackman (21899) 2013-04-13 3:46
It was a wise choice to use the wide angle lens as it emphasises the isolation and sense of abandonment. The brown tones of the house and dead grass all help tell the story.
A creative and fine capture.
Kind Regards, Ann
ChrisJ (116676) 2013-04-13 11:02
Good choice of a vertical frame and wide angled lens. I of course the sharpness is excellent. Perspective has been well managed here. I can understand why this was abandoned. No doubt winters here are brutal with heavy snowfalls. Tfs!
Romano46 (18472) 2013-04-13 12:58
Ciao e buon fine settimana
Cricri (122554) 2013-04-14 4:23
eldancer1 (36343) 2013-04-14 7:43
Looks like the building is built to withstand a harsh winter unfortunately time and elements were proven victors. Great pov and it has good dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
(Actually the picture Thomas The Tank was taken at the Nevada Railroad Museum in Boulder City)
ktanska (28391) 2013-04-14 8:16
So very wide angle fits with little houses too! I wonder why it's so obviously abandoned. First I thought it was in some remote corner of Iceland where life turned out just too hard. But Keflavik is not such a place.
COSTANTINO (67338) 2013-04-14 10:38
excellent capture of this abandoned home
the chosen point of view creates a
wonderful perspective,the backdrop
is really superb
have a nice new week
korbee (6619) 2013-04-14 12:06
Im not bored, this photo tells me untold stories and it gives a feeling of desolation, adn the wideangle is an extra bonus, this could be a good cd-cover by the way.
mirosu (16273) 2013-04-14 19:07
I don't think you are boring us. This is an excellent subject. It is interesting to see what people are leaving behind. I like this photo. The view up is clever, it makes the old house very dominant. The composition is well chosen, with the nice brown tones and excellent contrast against blue sky. Excellent quality. Bravo.
Schnappilic (9692) 2013-04-15 3:36
Good composition using wide lenses. I like the sky and the atmosphere of nordic land. TFS!
adramad (47668) 2013-04-15 8:55
Splendid composition in this capture from the bottom of the embankment, which gives a nice touch to the vertical leakage of the house, an image that conveys the emptiness of the arid landscape of dry grass. Very nice sky with these light scattered clouds.
A nice range of colors in the image.
Great management of light and sharpness.
Good start to the week.
bayno (18344) 2013-04-16 6:27
i like your HDR...is not to invasive...the colors and them contras is so nice and the sharp is at the top...i like also the theme...amazing sky and perfect framing, excellent work....

I see you found some nice abandoned places there! This one is very simple but in a perfect landscape. I like your pov and the fantastic sky. I guess I can see some straw inside:)! Good shot!
If you like this kind of places, you must visit Portugal!

I haven`t been very active on TE lately due to renovation of my house. I will finish the work in a couple of weeks.
This is a great addition to your collection of abandoned houses. Love the spooky feeling it conveys so well. Lovely veiled clouds that has a great impact on this beauiful shot. Very nice work! TFS. Have a nice weekend.
Best regards, Erling
