I have mentioned it a few times before in my posts from Iceland that what impressed me most about the country are all the wide open spaces.
Driving around, you see scene's like this all the time. Its very difficult to feel trapped in Iceland, you always feel free and wanting to roam :)
This photo was taken just a few minutes after leaving the airport when we landed. It was early in the morning, about 8am and the sun was glowing on the landscape.
Hope you like this hdr shot.

Hello Craig ,
The early light enhances the contrasts of colors between the dry grass and the cloudy sky . The two red roofed huts are attractive elements and very well placed in the composition . The kind of view I enjoy to see ... and to capture .

Ciao e buona serata

Minimalist but beautiful shot my friend, the light and the tones are superbe. I can imagine the solitude sensation being there....Impressive!

the morning light illuminates really beautifully the meadow and the houses. But for me the most spectacular thing is the contrast between this well illuminated area and the gloomy sky. It´s a kind of contradictory juxtaposition, but makes the shot looks unique.
Not the first time I mention your excellent HDR treatment, but it looks really amazing here!
Have a good day

Reminds me of the old tv series little house on the prairie. Good sharpness and well composed using the rule of thirds with nice warm cold colour contrasts between the foreboding blue grey sky and the dried yellow grass and 2 red rooftops. Tfs!

Well, this is definitely different from the Heathrow area. The morning light is great and looking even better thanks to the dark clouds. The light makes the red roofs shine and gives the dry grass a touch of gold.

the glowing light on the huts is really nice. The basic style of the buildings amongst the barren landscape gives a really atmospheric appearance to the scene.
All the best,

ahh, this is fantastic. such a simple landscape with just the two distinctive huts providing wonderful focal points. the light is amazing and has resulted in some very striking colours and a perfect feeling of open space and freedom.

Beautiful moody image, as if the paintings of Dutch masters of the brush. Looking at the wind combed the grass, feel the power of the wind. Beautiful frame, color and quality of this wonderful composition.

Hi Craig - I'm out of critiques, but I wanted to comment on this beauty... For some reason I always associate this kind of light with the far north - for good reason in this shot. Nicely set against the dark clouds.
The wide open quality of Iceland struck me while we were there as well... odd for such a small country, to feel that big at times. The lack of trees and the windswept quality of so much of the landscape adds to it. Nice illustration here; I love the texture all the way around on this one. Thanks!
PS - you keep threatening to come to Boston, first on my Fenway shots and now on my dad's... enough flitting about to Iceland and Poland! I've got some buildings you'd have a field day with over here!

Une belle lumière islandaise et un paysage particulier....une bien jolie introduction à ton séjour islandais!

Hello Craig - Your shot emphasises the wild and open nature of the landscape. Despite the warm colours and light on the small buildings and grasses there is a wonderful desolate feel to the shot. Magical Place and a fine evocative shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Apart from the style and colour of the houses, the landscape is very much like the moorlands around my home. The grasses are still very yellowy/brown with no evidence of the coming spring. You have positioned the buildings strongly, one leading to the next. The sky is a major part of the shot whilst the light, in general, is beautiful.
At this point, you must have been bubbling with anticipation. What else were you going to see!!
Have a great day,

What a lonesome-looking place! A terrible abandoned-like location.
In spite of that, you got such an inviting picture - at least for us - photo-lovers!
Exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition are highlights here!
TFS - congrats,
Kielia (23847) 2013-04-11 5:28
excellent photo work, you have chosen a very well working POV to capture this lonely house under a dramatic sky. The contrast of the colors is amazing. The light makes the image very attractive. A great capture!
rogerl (1544) 2013-04-11 5:31
Craig, backlit shots like this, where the light seems to come from nowhere, are really beautiful, particularly against an otherwise cloudy sky. You've seen and captured the view perfectly. This looks like a lovely place.
saxo042 (37594) 2013-04-11 8:36
The cloudy blue sky above the dry brown grass are in a very attractive colour harmony. The two buildings with their red roofs add to this very artistic atmosphere. A very beautiful picture from these open spaces.
kato (11630) 2013-04-11 8:57
You're capturing well this landscape by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see a tasteful spectacle of counrtside. It's beautiful for the ground with the loose slope covered with rich grass and lovely barn, too. And, it's good at the contrast of the ground and the sky with gray clouds. The red roof of barn draws out a good impact in this image. Very excellent photograph!

I like this kind of shot without so much busyness in the frame. Nice contrast of the red roof with fine texture and details in the foreground.
Nice work and thanks for sharing.

i didn't even noticed it was a HDR shot ! Nice dichotomy between warm brown colours, and cold grey-blue sky.
Well balanced composition,
