Photographer’s Note

Looking north towards the coast of Iceland from the top of the volcano Eldfell, the one that popped out of the ground in 1973. All the ground you see at the bottom of the volcano is hardened lava that was spat out by the volcano during the eruption of 1973. You can see that the moss is pretty much only just starting to take over the surface. Give it a few more decades and the whole surface area will be completely covered by a thick layer of moss, like is the case in all the main lava fields in the country.
