Photographer’s Note

For this shot of Iceland's iconic Gullfoss waterfall, I took two different exposures for the foreground and sky (1/5 s foreground and 1/40 s sky, both F22) and combined them as different layers in Photoshop.

Hi John,

I like this shot. The muted and delicate color palette is really pleasing to the eye and the way the rising mist and clouds interlock with each other is also nice. Well done on the ND soft (software) graduated filter job. I try to do this myself and already know it's tricky to get it done right. Here it's seamless. Great work.

What a fantastic waterfall! The photo does a good job of capturing the beauty of this place, the way the ground seems to open up and swallow the water. Good job with the capture and the processing with the different exposures, the result is very natural. Well done!

A good idea taking the picture with two different exposures and then work with the Photoshop. This wasn't possible with the analogic camera and the Velvia Slides!!
