Following from my previous posting of Sax player in the Graffiti park in Reykjavik: This image is of one of the graffiti artists. He is a student studying graphic design at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. One of the other artists on the day was a recent graduate of the same Academy.
The image was taken in a gated passageway that connects the park Hjartagarðurinn (Heart garden) or Hjartatorg (Heart square) to the main shopping street Laugavegur. The other street from which to enter the park is Hverfisgata.
You can see in the image that the main light source is behind the artist. The passageway was relatively dark and there was not enough room for me to stand and fit in the whole image of the artist if I put my camera to my eye, so I held the camera close to ground level and against the opposing wall of the passage. I composed the image by tilting the camera obliquely while looking at the tilted live-view screen on the back of the camera.
ISO was automatic. The auto selected ISO was 1000 while the shutter speed was just 1/60 sec at f7.1

You struggled to get a good shot with this but the effort has really been worthwhile for it is a good demonstration of composition. The angled cobbles emerge from the bottom r/h corner and the artist is well positioned in the frame, where he guides onlookers but does not obscure his creation.
Have a lovely day,

We often see graffiti in our streets, most of it is pure vandalism. Here you seem to have caught a real artist in action, very concentrated in his work. I like the combination of the artist and his art and also the nice colour harmony between his painting and his shoes.

A superb capture in rather difficult circumstances. The artist with his spray-can is very well placed. Very good rendering of the colours and textures.

it appears that your endeavors were not in vain as there are some really nice dynamics about this shot with the artist well placed to display his handiwork.
Very nicely done.

Nice shot of this artist really busy with this modern form of art (if I may say it so). Superb bright colors and well managed light. I wonder what he is drawing. Thanks for sharing an interesting photo.

interesting subject and really superb execution of this shot!
I like the way you placed the "artist" in the shot and how excellently you were able to bring out all textures of the wall and vivid colors.
Eye-catching and expressive composition!

a street artist caught in the act. I like it. Nice contrasting brown and grey although the grey right part is not that interesting (yet). But i see you coudnt crop without cutting off feet or head. Well done.

Cool name. This is a nice shot of the graffiti artist at work. In many part of the U.S. it would be considered vandalism. Euroupe seems to except this more a work of art. Mostly because graffiti in the U.S. is always associated with gang and not always pleasing to the eyes.
The large version is huge. Full of detials. He is so in his elements and concentration on the task at hand, and also his standing on tip toe is one of those little detail I noticed and appreciated.
