Photographer’s Note
The church of Vidim Rarkirja in the northern part of Iceland. This church is one of the last building traditionally built. The use of turf for the wall was imposed by the lack of construction wood (it had to be shipped from Europe). The expensive wood was reserved for the "noble" part i.e front facade and the altar.

Hi Antoine,
a fine image of this traditional building. The light and colour are excellent and the sharpness is perfect. A wonderful composition and a good note too. I see you have shots of Antarctica, I'll return soon.

Lovely shot of this church! I really like how you have managed to keep the black colourful :D I don't know if you visited the turf houses not so far away (around the corner Icelandic style)... those were quite impressive as well! Too bad for the white grave stone and the white dots in the left BG that have been burned onto the image. Would have been smoother to leave them out (clone them out...)
It is quite sad that the knowledge on building turf houses has been quite totally lost, even on that island that depended on that style of building.
In any case, TFS!

On ne voit pas beaucoup de photos d'Islande.
Et si j'en juge par ce splendide cliché, c'est fort dommage !

Nice composition, realistic colours and good sharpness. But I can assure you there is nothing in Iceland called Vidim Rarkirja. Most probably this is a funny version of Víðimýrarkirkja (for those unable to view Icelandic letters this is Vidimyrarkirkja). Víðimýrarkirkja would translate literally as Willow Swamp Church.
Anyway, nice photo.

Hi Antoine.
Very interesting traditional building, it belongs to a fantastic world far away from my reality.
