The rain was light in the morning, but it is strong as we drive on the F35 trackroad, also called Kjalvegur. This road goes through the Iceland highlands from the north to the south and is very useful to not have to make a detour on the road 1, the circular road of the island. The track passes by one of these incredible natural sites you can see in Iceland : Hveravellir.
Hveravellir is a geothermal site in the desert land between Langjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers. You can see hot springs, have a bath in a hot water river and admire some incredible geological formations. For example geyserite. Geyserite is a form of opaline silica that is often found around hot springs or (you probably guessed it from the name) geysers. It looks like stone lace, a fantastic natural artwork ! You can see geyserite in other places in Iceland (in particular in Geysir) but the one in Hveravellir is the most well preserved. Probably because the place is isolated and unreachable the most part of the year.
About the picture ... It was raining. Some heavy and cold rain, nearly horizontal because of the wind. This is the weather we have for a few hours we drive on F35 track road. And of course not the best weather to take pictures ! But we made use of any lull to make a few pictures of this fantastic place, not as many as we hoped anyway !

Very interesting photo with lots of fascinating patterns and textures. Good idea to present it in portrait format.
It rained all the time each time I went to Iceland!
