Well, I was all prepared to post another photo from Lima Peru - until I was inspired by Jason's Corvette car photo!
Thanks Jason, way to go, now i'm off track! haha
I'll return to Peru after this photo.
I've posted a photo of this abandoned truck before, but it was a wide angle viewpoint with a large sky, here we can see its personality up close. To view the other photo, simply click on the town name "vik" above.
left to rot and die in the harsh Iceland climate, this truck has that certain appeal that I truly love.
I put Vik down as the city, but truthfully speaking its in the middle of nowhere in Iceland, with no city for miles and miles. The truck sits on the property of what I thought was an abandoned house aswell - so I approached the front door to get inside, and to my surprise I was ruthlessly greeted by an old white bearded scary man living inside.
I suppose than that this is his truck. I would have loved to sit and chat with the fellow, but i pissed him off for trying to enter his home. If you could see the home he lived in you'd understand why I thought it was abandoned, its the same if not in worse condition as the truck! There is a posted photo of the house in my Iceland gallery if you're interested.
anyways, hope you like this rusted beauty!

The old Scania-Vabis made a comeback!
Sure there's room for a second picture of this old lady with beautiful, but blind eyes. There isn't much point on deciding which version is my favorite, but I think it's the first one.
I clicked Vik above, and did not find that earlier one. After searching it I noticed that you had marked it on different region, Sudhur-Thingeyjarsysla. This gives me unhappy certainty that either one is incorrect.

I kind of feel insane in that I cannot help but seeing faces in cars and buildings, and I openly admit to seeing it again here. This truck looks kind of sad, I think with its eyes missing that's a lot to do with it, but also confused as to why its been left out like this. Its full of personality, and must make a fascinating subject on this vast landscape.
Another contender for a parking space in the city of the dead!
All the best

Ciao e buona serata

I can say this much about this picture that Swedish trucks may rust and rot but they don't easily die. A little brush-up and it will be as good as new ;-).
You love neglected cars and I have a strange fascination with neglected houses. It seems we share the love for faded colurs and rust. There certainly are some interesting details here and the colors - whatever's left of them - are very good. The light was beautiful too.

Looks like this truck has run out of warranty a long time ago. Great colours, lighting and clarity.Love the way the hood is still tied down with a piece of rope which makes me wonder is this old timer still running.

this days I visit a Zoo that in the entrance have many old cars, badly I don't have time to take photos of then, only two shots. When I saw then I remember your nice old cars photos as this one. Lovely the rust color is very pretty with the blue.

Hi Craig, You are crazy to hunt everywhere for the wreecked ships, haunted houses and rusty cars! don't you have them in Canada so you look for them everywhere? and again strange adventure! Splendid shot, anyway.

first Jason posted today picture of a beautiful Corvette, now you present to us this Vabis truck.Maybe not as fast or shining as Jason´s Corvette:),but it has definitely its own charm and beauty.
For me it´s always amazing to see how such old abandoned and ruined objects look so captivating on photos.
Excellent processing of the image and superb graphical effect!
jcpix (13726) 2013-08-19 17:08
Bahahaha...love it, Craig! I'm sorry that I was the person to throw you off your game...but I'm truly honored it would be from something that you were able to enjoy! :) Much respect!
This is fantastic, your classic point of view with the ever so fun wide angle. I really like that it's still head on, but off center...a slightly different twist that works oh so well. These rusted out old timers can be a photog's gold mine, yeah? There's an enormous amount of character to be conveyed and displayed...oh, if only they could talk!?
So much detail in the sharp focus, and I see that you did this at an f/5.6. I tried an wider aperture and came away with mostly blur, what am I missing....besides a propensity to get it wrong? Anyway, awesome image...the colors are saturated perfectly to show off that decayed appeal and the light is superb. Chalk up another win! :)
Thanks for the shout out. Take it easy.
Best regards from the desert,

Ta passion des vieilles voitures t'a permis de ramener des images insolites d'Islande avec toujours ces cadrages originaux qui en font la force.

What a stunning meet face to face, a reminiscent of a great US Truck that has seen a better life and what a sad state of affair she is in now. She has provided us with something special not an everyday subject, I can almost smell the rust and your closeness is so effective emphasizing this to superb effect. This is gorgeous I have never seen personally and screaming for attention!! Great shot. :)
As to your queries; http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/China/photo1426961.htm
Small budget hotels aplenty there around the low lying old quarter, inexpensive (something like 10-20usd), safe and clean full air-con. As i have mentioned this crumbling place has endless photo opportunity but it depends also on your interest and preference. I stayed for 3 nights as planned enroute to Sichuan for my month long escapade there.
Thanks, hv a great day

I love the isolation of this old trick. The rusty colours are most attractive and of course your wide angle lens captures the 'soul' of this beauty with its wide mouth and eyes!
Very well done
Kind Regards, Ann

This is not the car of our friend Jason but I still love him! :) Great close-up of this old abandoned car. A photo with your style signature, superb as usual!
Have a nice day my friend,

You do seem to come across some very interesting characters in your travels:-) But, I can see why why you would want to take lots of pictures of this baby and if the house was in the same or worse condition .. Great use of the wide angle lens; I like also how the background is also in focus. Superb colours and clarity.
Sergiom (65065) 2013-08-20 5:31
Tu as bien fait de changer d'image pour nous montrer ce vieux camion dans toute sa décadence mais qui tente de garder sa fière allure d'antan même si ses couleurs sont passées.
timecapturer (49288) 2013-08-20 5:57
lovely old wreck this, so different from Jason's little red Corvette. Super close up detailing and a POV that makes its presence all the more alluring and fascinating. Has a real sad ambience about it, this shot - unloved and abandoned. Great subject though!
limielski (0) 2013-08-20 6:07
Such old cars look very attractive especially when wide angle lens are used. Huge front of the car is fantastic. You have found the best POV. The car looks impressively
Excellent shot!. This kind of shots have its own charm!
Cricri (110209) 2013-08-20 10:28
L'effet du grand angle le rend encore plus impressionnant, je le vois bien dans le film de Mad Max, bon rendu des détails et des couleurs, superbe
cjmm (4479) 2013-08-20 11:21
Nice low PoV and wide lens. It seems it works very well for this kind of photo.
Nice story about the house, too!
I like the fact that photos like this one, put us to think the story behind the subject.
Royaldevon (32515) 2013-08-20 12:56
I see a sad, pleading face, here.
Very much a Cinderella car, waiting for her very own fairy godmother!
Your chosen close-up is very responsible for this mood. It captures every rusted, misshapen detail, with the sunken eyes holding the greatest emotion!
Great use of narrow dof to capture these sharp textural details.
My warm regards,
Indrasish (2893) 2013-08-20 23:32
Excellent shot here.. Loke the composition and the nice colors too.. I really like this type of image.. Superb image quality too.. Very well done.. also an interesting note attached to it..
Good morning from India and wish you all the best..
mkamionka (31921) 2013-08-21 11:56
great capture of the rusted car. It seems to be left in the middle of nowhere. Excellent quality: sharpness so that we can almost feel the rusted surface and the vivid colors which make it truly eye-catching. Very well spotted!
elenimavrandoni (14209) 2013-08-24 22:01
Craig, I am personally very fond of old trucks and cars and I consider this one a beauty!!I like the angle used to show the true personality of this truck, it would be so nice to put it together again..
nice shot, thanks for visiting me!
pierrefonds (59276) 2013-08-27 4:29
The tigh frame is putting the truck in evidence. The close-up point of view is showing with precision the details and colours of the old truck. The good lumnosity is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.
Hansaphotos (7203) 2013-08-27 10:32
Excellent close-up portrait of this rusty old truck. A fine detail is how the hood is tethered to prevent it from blowing up. As I commented on the other portrait of this truck - nice Icelandic colours. Charming shot! TFS.
Best regards, Erling

I had a difficult time selecting a capture out of so many outstanding capture. I picked this one as it brings back many pleasant scenes of such relics from the past. This one being a close up desplays many wonderful colors and a terrific pov. Wonderfully done Craig.
Warm regards and thanks,
