Seljalandsfoss is a spectacular waterfall on the ring road in southern Iceland between Selfoss and Skogafoss. This waterfall of the river Seljalandsá drops 60 metres over the cliffs of the former coastline. It is particularly famous as it is possible to walk all the way behind it (you can see the path on the right here).

donluicu (24718) 2008-05-15 3:08
this is not that impressive!!
just a shower in the garden..but...but...
isn't this some people in the left side??
no? you mean that this is a huge fall???
just kidding! it's a perfect shot! nice use of WA, and great but complicated light..what have you done exactly? lightroom+ps or only capture?
anes_lc (14968) 2008-05-15 3:14

alainh (35579) 2008-05-15 3:14
Terrible as usual !
Island is a paradise ! congratulations
Floydian (30970) 2008-05-15 3:28
Your pp handling and colour treatment is impressive. Every single detail is been taken care of, i like such dedication. Those people on the left look like small dots, but they are essentiel for scaling in this wonderful landscape. Clouds are pushed, ocean nice blue, deep green an yellow all over the place. The only thing i would like to see was more fram the fall, the upper part. Maybe a three horizontal exposure stitched above each other?
Anyway, an impressive landscape which i would like to see myself (maybe next year) and trying to make at least the same quality as you have in your Iceland shots.
A great shot, i really like this.
Reading your travelogue, very interesting en nice to read, very informative, thanks.
xkolba (596) 2008-05-15 3:40
Fantastic shot! this is a incredible picture, water looks like falling from the sky. Superb colors and light. Cheers!
eversmile (11628) 2008-05-15 3:54
Graceful! It looks like the secret place where fairies take a bath. What a dramatic sky, contrasting with the beautiful colors of the soil! A mind-blowing vision...! Well done! Congratulations, Marine
carolskie007 (487) 2008-05-15 3:56
WOW! this is awesome! great landscape worthy to be called paradise :o)
sevy (15009) 2008-05-15 4:11
I do not know how to say how I like this photo, the grey sky modulated by the clouds, the lighted background, the foreground in a smooth shadow, the falls which seems to come from the sky and those green saturated colors which remind me the Velvia slides I used before.
Definitively, Iceland is a dreamy country.
DKarine (3903) 2008-05-15 4:36
Here is indeed the photo which gives envy to go to see of our eyes this magnificent waterfall!
It is impressive. The persons seem tiny next to this fall of water. Moreover it seems to fall directly of the sky, colors are magnificent.
I allow to put it in my favourites!
marion44 (9) 2008-05-15 4:59
This is such a beautiful photo ! I especially like your point of view from behind with the tourists on the other side ! Those tourists gives the scale to realize how impressive is the waterfall. Well everything is great in your photo ! Awesome !
michiels (4170) 2008-05-15 5:02
very impressing photo, it's amazing that such places exist ! very nice deep colours and very special compo from that point of view ! special and fantastic photo for sure !!

What can we say about this one ?
This is just stunning.
macondo (18481) 2008-05-15 6:50
What a remarkable shot!
Superb viewpoint and very good use of the extreme wide angle lens. I think you got the shutter speed just right, to capture the water - not too sharp or too blurry. The colours and light are breathtaking, and the view down to the spectators, who look so small, is superb. The detail on the rock face at the right is very sharp, and on top of everything you have that sombre, brooding sky, contrasting with the white water of the falls. Magnificent.
lopshang (720) 2008-05-15 7:43
Very lovely and beautiful color. Love the sharpness and detail of this shot. Good composition and fine POV.
jonathan_hart (21274) 2008-05-15 10:04
interesting point of view on this fantastic waterfall, the colours are great, good PP done
jocduerr (217) 2008-05-15 10:30
this as another one of your "killer" photos.
The colors are absolutely amazing.
I dont like the growd of people in the rear, but that is probably my own personal opinion (I always try to avoid people whenever possible).
Anyways the light makes this one unique.
Its always a pleasure to browse your photos.
chawax (17600) 2008-05-15 10:33
Very good shot. The point of view is great and the people on foot of the cascade give a good idea how high this cascade is ! The colours and the light are very good too and the dark sky creates a nice atmosphere.
dkeus31 (27735) 2008-05-15 11:06
a good pov behind this impressive fall!
the greens are well saturated.
TGULUMSER (13252) 2008-05-15 14:20
It is really a spectacular waterfall. The view is like a dream,
lilimih33 (9912) 2008-05-15 14:37
Fantastic your point of view and wonderful colours!
Beautiful colours and detail!
asajernigan (19669) 2008-05-15 17:34
Fantastic shot of this waterfall. The lighting and colors are outstanding with great sharpness and DOF. The longer exposure gives the falls an even more powerful look. The people to the side on the walkway gives a sense of scale of the scene.
Henryk_Bilor (20799) 2008-05-16 2:09
Amazing capture of the waterfall. Excellent composition and colours.
hispic (9619) 2008-05-16 2:46
You have captured the famous Seljalandsfoss with an exquisite composition that put tourists. The depiction of falling water by an appropriate shutter speed is excellent, also of the yellow field and clouds in the background too.
Have a nice weekend, Hisashi
Dyerco (10185) 2008-05-16 8:05
What a great shot. I like the addition of people as it really adds scale. The colours are superb as is the overall exposure.
One of my favourites.
johannes68 (3469) 2008-05-16 23:19
this is a photo right out of dreamland, hard to believe that a place like that really exists...
Fantastic place, pantastic composition with the rocks framing the photo, fantastic colours!
toto (0) 2008-05-17 1:29
belle photo de cette chute superbe qui tombe ainssi de haut mais prise sous un POV particulier que je n' avais encore jamais vu.
Cette façon de tomber en rond dans cet étang rond est superbe.
Jolies couleurs et bonne netteté.
teutza (10590) 2008-05-17 4:27
wow...this one really captured my atention!!!
excelent POv..and the rest...is just too good to be trrue:)
rajhema (1903) 2008-05-17 18:42
Spectacular falls John. keeping the people within the frame gives a perception to the size of the falls. Colors are awesome and vibrant.
Thanks for sharing.
dcawker (5717) 2008-05-18 18:41
Fantastic! You've got an impressive gallery! Regards, Doug
pboehringer (770) 2008-05-18 19:56
the backpart POV is a real surprise. Nice to see the crowd at the left side staring at this real nature wonder. The weather and light conditions gives the perfect dramatic backdrop. What surprises me somewhat is the horizontal frame but that was probably mandatory to take the crowd into the shot. I wonder about the real size of thisplave taking into account that you weren't able to take it all in with your wide angle lens. Henk's suggestion is doing a stitch seems the only way to get the whole scene into a single presentation.
euryan (8434) 2008-05-18 21:28
Great atmosphere. The overcast weather is captured gorgeously. Of course the waterfall is the star attraction here, but the weather really makes this shot unique. Great colors too. The inclusion of the people is good to show how massive this waterfall is.
derek3755 (2341) 2008-05-19 0:02
stunning! incredible light, mood & atmosphere. Good use of wide angle, and the inclusion of the small people in a way looks lik ethe fairies have come out for a bath
carper (96) 2008-05-19 4:14
wauw I love it John,

first of all let me say congratulations for the beautiful travelogue which is truly useful.
About the picture once again you show us your immense talent in capturing such a beautiful moment. The view is simply breathtaking with the compo so well enhanced by the smalness of the people before the power of the nature..amazing!
I'll be back in Italy in October, and this time I really look forward to meet you..even if only for an autograph!
fotohadi (2967) 2008-05-20 6:36

andywo (4717) 2008-05-21 8:17
Very special view and composition! Nice colours.
tsim (727) 2008-05-22 11:26
Marvellous! This image is a true postcard. The saturated colours are splendid. I' always wanted to go once in Iceland, then this photograph gives me still more desire. Greetings. Simon
kiks (11749) 2008-05-22 16:06
FANTASTIC moment you catch, John. And te colors are just so clear. I love that about the NIkon's. I'm thinking about buying one!
But a good camara is not enough. The phootograaf is the one hoe spot the perfect moment and choose the perfect pov like you did here.
OLF (4017) 2008-05-24 2:55
This is an incrdible shot, fabulous colors under that superb dark sky. Good choice of exposure time for that excellent result on the waterfall. Very well done!
Clementi (52514) 2008-05-24 7:03
grande spettacolo della natura , eccezionale il trattamento, che altro dire... la guardo con ammirazione.
smarcell (19963) 2008-06-02 3:58
Stupenda. If you replace dinosaurs insetad of those little humans it would be the perfect landscape.
joolsb (336) 2008-06-05 10:28
Beautiful! The people really do bring home the scale of this amazing place.
Sam_CH (3366) 2008-06-05 15:30
A beautiful picture with fresh colours. The dark sky in the background is important I think and creates a good opposition with the bright colours of foreground. I have been here in february and it 's completely different. I have posted a workshop without the tourists. It gives a scale for the waterfall, but without them, it increases the feeling of lost world. TFS.
Kind regards. Samuel
romanaa (7750) 2008-06-06 7:04
a lot of pictures of the waterfalls here on TE, taken with long exposure, but I your shot is really different, the unusual point of view with the upper part partially cropped gives me the feeling of being behind that beautiful water curtain. Well seen, you have found a brilliant POV.
Guntin (1325) 2008-06-10 13:35
Your work with the colours in the PP is amazing, but the picture wouldn't be so impressive with your great composition. PP is not everything, and you demonstrate it in each picture of your gallery.
npecanhuk (59032) 2008-06-17 7:44
Is this on Earth??? Ah... I see some terrestrials on the left side of the picture!
It must be! But what a place!
The colors are so intense and beautiful!
The landscape with the waterfall is superb, incredible!
Straight to my favorite ones!
TFS - Congratulations!
Greetings from Brazil,
Elaine_Blath (8509) 2008-06-24 0:52
well chosen POV on this beautiful nature landscape, and also the inclusion of people down there allows us to see how big this waterfall really is...well done!
Taka care, Ivana
maria (3276) 2008-06-30 6:10
Spectacular is also your image John.
I take my hat off.
cmagallona (145) 2008-07-04 10:34
Hi John, Impressive composition ! I like the color contrast of the greens and the sky. I thought I saw this picture somewhere. Has this been featured on a photo magazine?
Thanks for sharing.
bakes888 (18499) 2008-08-09 2:04
Hi John. Excellent photo. you have done a great job on this shot. Well composed with wonderful colours and details. Well judged shutter speed to retain some texture in the falling water. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good weekend, Paul.
PS You have a great gallery.
brandstaetter (15915) 2008-08-21 7:27
Already seen perspective, but not so dramatic.
mdetay (4865) 2008-09-03 1:08
Excellent colors and POV.
Cheers from Antibes.
jorgi (3810) 2008-09-05 2:11
so...you are the chosen one i guess. Not many are alowed to enter into a fairy-tale world like this one. Admitt it...this is not from our planet... :) Seriously...it is amazing. Seeing yours and Anellise Anes captures from Iceland always strike me with pure amazement and basket full of compliments. Not only that country itself is completely different from other worlds I know...you know hot to serve the best of it in a highest quality possible. My humble bow.
giorgimer (34777) 2008-10-08 4:46
ho visto questa foto il giorno dopo essere tornato dal meeting. Sono rimasto impressionato per la sua estrema bellezza. ottimo punto di vista e una qualità perfetta, a partire dai colori. Anche la cornice contribuisce al risultato.
jcdurka1 (1950) 2008-10-10 4:10
Taking time to visit your album, we can find a lot of amazing shots in which the nature is the heroe. In this one, we can see the power of how the elements can build a landscape and how small we are.
unsalan (149) 2011-01-03 14:22
I think this is a fantastic photo. Colors, composition, dramatic effect all exists in this photo. I especially like the "little" people which makes us understand the size of this grand waterfall. Congratulations for this great image :-)
