Photographer's Note

At the end of our whale watching cruise we are back in Húsavík port flooded by the end of day sun. This small town has a population of 2,200, which is very important in this area of Iceland. It lives from fishing and more and more from tourism, in particular whale watching. The most known landmark of the city is its 1907 wooden church (Húsavíkurkirkja) that you can see on the photo. You can also see blue flowers covering the hills over the city : this is Alaska blue lupine. This is not a local plant, it was imported from North America and helped to fix and fertilize eroded soil. But it is also a threat for local species.
