Photographer's Note

After Dettifoss and Selfoss waterfalls, we discover one more waterfall downstream : Hafragilsfoss. To go to the point of view on this waterfall, you have to drive on a small track road from the F682 to Dettifoss road, then walk a few minutes to the summit of cliffs surrounding Jökulsá á Fjöllum river. I will show you the waterfall on my next shot, but on this one you can see the fantastic point of view on Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. This canyon is 24 kilometres long and ends in a sandur (a plain of sand) at the esturay of the river, south of the small village of Kópasker. The canyon is up to 500 metres width and 120 metres deep. It is part of a national park. Don't you find it looks a little like the Grand Canyon ? As we were enjoying the view, the fog we had at Selfoss and Dettifoss waterfalls started to break up and a few sunbeams illuminated the canyon. The beginning of a sunny and quite warm afternoon in Iceland !
