Photographer’s Note

Húsavík, a small town located on the north coast of Iceland, is rapidly earning a reputation as the whalewatching centre of Europe, due to the variety of whales that can be seen in nearby waters. Whales likely to be seen include minke whales, humpback whales, fin whales, sei whales, orcas, dolphins and harbour porpoises.
This evening view of Húsavík harbour shows a whalewatching boat on the right.

Hi John,
Heavy on the pp (some might think the white on the boat is to much) but i like these strong and deep colourful images. Nice play with light and shadow. Excellent detail, even far away on the snow peak mountains. The red ball on the left gives it a nice extra colour touch to it...i like it.

Hello John.
I think this is a wonderful shot. The luminosity of the water and sky, and the lovely composition placing the red buoy and the boat on the diagonal between the corners, is very impressive and pleasing. Perhaps Henk is right about the PP on the white of the boat, but the sharpness and the compositional aspects easily compensate. Well done.

Hi John,

Oh, what a beautiful light conditions you had here. A very well composed image: a good idea to add the red buoy at the left side. It's a good counter-weight for the boat.
The dramatic sky craeates a splendid atmosphere.

Hi John,

I got here through a link in Anellise her photo-note. And I have to be honest that I prefer your posting! Due to the heavy clouds and darker parts in the top, the composition does not feel that centered - though it is! It also gives a bit more open space to rest the eye, but there still is enough to see. Nice one!!

The red float, the boat and the shack form a triangle for our eyes to move about i this image. The PP is excellent in the the boat really stands out as do the couds. Very nicely done.

Another fantastic shot John, where the amazing sky and its reflections on the water makes the difference here, beside the great lighting perfectly handled. The clarity and details are superb throughout with the great compo perfectly balanced. I like this shot a lot!!

Hello John,
I am happy you are presenting this marvelous scene in beatiful natural colours cause I am quite fed up with all those sunsets presented on TE.
The reflection is great and your picture has somewhat thoughtful atmosphere and the red thing on the left gives yuor picture a perfect point to catch the eye.

Hi John,

simply fantastic! I do not know if it because of marvelou scenery, or maybe excellent pp work, or maybe because is taken by excellent photographer, or all together, I just know it impresses great deal. All elements are perfectly positioned, scenery marvelous with vivid sky action creating very dramatic mood and the boat. Simple but strong with its presence. Excellent shot!

That bit of red in an otherwise mostly blue/white, grey dominance,is a great detail. I like a lot the early evening mood and light, the stillness, the reflections, don't know what else to say, I can devine that there's some PP but could'n say what as you do that with great finesse...in my eyes at least. Didn't get as far as Husavik, hope next time...nostalgy gets me.

Merci pour les gentils mots que tu as écris pour mon "anniversaire". Cela me permets aussi de retrouver ta merveilleuse galerie. Tes photos d' Iceland sont magnifiques.
Je crois que celle-ci est ma préférée: j'aime la composition avec ce si beau bateau à droite et le ciel si lumineux avec les reflets dans l'eau. Des couleurs douces et très lumineuses qui créent une atmosphère particulière.
