Höfn or Höfn í Hornafirði is an Icelandic fishing town in the south-eastern part of the country. It lies near a fjord named Hornafjörður.
This harbour town, the second largest in the south-eastern part of Iceland, gives scenic views of Vatnajökull (the largest ice cap in Europe by volume).
Höfn is located on a peninsula in the south-east of Iceland. The name Höfn means harbour and it is a fishing port surrounded on three sides by the sea, with beaches on the long shoreline on the south-east. Sand bars and glacial rivers traverse this area with many shifting lagoons and sand reefs being formed.
Höfn and the Hornafjörður area, being on the Eastern coast of Iceland, are on the leeward side of prevailing winds. While it might be windy, less precipitation falls in this area making it part of the closest thing to being a low desert in Iceland (the high desert being the area East of Mývatn). http://wikitravel.org/en/H%C3%B6fn
Could have fooled me about this place being a low desert.

As a big spotlight, the landscape is illuminated on a small area revealing the white houses with their red roofs. The shadow is almost as dark as the overcast sky.
Congratulations for this moment

Hi Trevor. Stunning ribbon of light in all the dark surroundings. The red roofs and white walls really stand out dramatically. What a place! Does one know what the next minute might bring weather wise? Regards. Klaudio.

Hello Trevor, a drama unfolding in front of your eyes and now ours!
It is wonderful the way that the sunlight singles out the farm for its light.
The green of the grass and the red roof are the perfect colours to catch the eyes.

again, love all of your shots from Iceland.
so much to appreciate and admire.
this one stands out for obvious reasons. The lightly colored beige or faded cream colors of the buildings stand out so well against the grey/black brooding skyline.
gotta love that strip of lime green too.
whats not to like!
