'hestur' = horse
hestur í Höfn = 'horse at Höfn'
Tjis mynd er af íslenskum hesti á Höfn, Iceland
This picture is of an Icelandic horse at Höfn.
The Icelandic horse was developed from ponies taken to Iceland by Scandinavian settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries, the breed is mentioned in literature and historical records throughout Icelandic history; the first reference to a named horse appears in the 12th century. Horses were venerated in Norse mythology, a custom brought to Iceland by the country's earliest settlers. Selective breeding over the centuries has developed the breed into its current form. Natural selection has also played a role, as the harsh Icelandic climate eliminated many horses through cold and starvation. In the 1780s, much of the breed was wiped out in the aftermath of a volcanic eruption.
In the workshop posting is the original image from which this one was 'recovered' by PP using LR4.

Hello Trevor - This is a fine shot. I love the composition with the Icelandic pony beautifully positioned withing the frame and certainly the main FP. The wider view is full of detail, setting the scene but not overpowering the main subject. The pony's mane and tail both have the look of wind blowing through them and add a little dynamism to the image. Lovely to see! Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Trevor ,
A little lack of sharpness , but that gives a special and quite pleasnt effect , for this oustanding composition . The horse in the Fg has a very proud attitude . Beautiful BG , too , with the farmstead and the clody mountain .

well for the composition first all all - it is not only interesting but also well balanced. The portrait of the horse is natural with its mane swinging little bit in the wind, but I like the landscape in the background too. All the elements stay in great harmony. Nice colors too.
Thanks for sharing

Ciao e buona giornata

An amazing shot, both for the very low close-up of the little horse and the towering landscape of mountains behind. The lighting is superb, and I suspect you have done some good post processing (but maybe not) to bring out the detail in the horse against the background sunlight. Terrific sense of being there in this one - I can almost feel the wind.

These ponies are almost as famous as the waterfalls and mountains of this beautiful country. You composed this shot superbly, it looks like something out of an advertisement. Stunning rich colours, excellent compositional balance and impressive depth. Top job, thanks for sharing.
