Open-Air Ethnographic Museum (Szabadtéri Néprajzi Múzeum), Nagyvázsony

The former Schumacher House and its outbuildings host not only ethnographic exhibitions, but also displays of the tools and products of old crafts. The shed, the cellar and the barn are all part of the museum.
The gable of the house is decorated with plasterwork and a columned veranda runs along the courtyard side. It is from this side that the rooms open and each has its own door. The kitchen with its open chimney is in the middle of the house. The utensils for preparing a festive meal are displayed here. Adjacent to the kitchen is the larder where pots and storage containers, the flour chest, various straw baskets, a meat-safe and the scales can be seen.
The back room (the living, sleeping room) has period furnishings, but the loom of the last Vázsony master weaver is also displayed here. A green glazed tile stove stands left to the door. Nagyvázsony was an important centre of carpentry and pottery and the exhibited objects bear witness to this fact.
Temporary exhibitions are regularly arranged in the front room where contemporary craftsmen display their work of the old, traditional crafts. The tools and utensils of viniculture and wine storage can be seen in the cellar while agricultural tools and farming equipment are exhibited in the shed behind the house.
Opposite the house, the barn is the home of the complete toolkit of Rudolf Pintér, the last member of the Nagyvázsony coppersmith dynasty.

Nagyvázsony

Situated in a picturesque environment, the village is famous for the castle that once belonged to the defeater of the Turkish, Pál Kinizsi. Its keep today hosts a museum. The ruins of the Pauline monastery (kolostorrom) of Nagyvázsony and the open-air ethnographic museum (néprajzi múzeum) preserve architectural heritage.
Memories of the peasant world of Nagyvázsony and its surrounding area are preserved in the open-air ethnographic museum. There are various exhibitions including the tools and products of old crafts.
The village also boasts a heritage of literary history: the poet Gergely Édes was the village's minister, and his famous poet acquaintance Mihály Csokonai Vitéz spent several months here as his guest in 1798.

Howdy. neighbor!

The red burgundy windows, 1/2 door, & gate, create a striking warm vs cold colour contrast against the blue sky. Superb sharpness & lighting. The person adds scale & their blue denim attire further contrasts against the red. Tfs, George!
