Orthodox cathedral (Beográda ortodox székesegyház)

The Orthodox cathedral, known as Beograda or the Church of Belgrade, is the spiritual centre of local Serbian-Orthodox life. This Baroque church was erected between 1756 and 1764, and its Baroque- and Rococo-style interior is of great value.

Visitors enter the enclosed church garden through a Rococo-style, fine wrought iron doorway (1772); both the cathedral and the bishop's palace are situated within.
In this Hungarian Baroque cathedral with one tower, there are several items of outstanding artistic value. These include a large icon dating from 1777-81, the gilded pulpit carved of lime wood and the canopied bishop's throne. The carved doors and the bevelled chandelier are also remarkable.
The choir is supported by Dorian columns of red marble; the women's section is underneath, while the Gents' section is in the central nave.
The tomb of Tihamér Vujisics, a composer who died tragically, is in the church garden. The church can be visited upon prior arrangement.

Szentendre

Szentendre is known as the town of living art due to its artist colony of international renown, and its museums and galleries. With its well preserved, distinctive 18th-century townscape, the town centre is a group of heritage buildings unique in Hungary.

In the beginning of the 2nd century the Romans built a defence system in and around Szentendre. Their reinforced military camp was called Ulcisa Castra, the first known name of the town. Later the town was called after the patron saint of the parish church, the apostle St Andrew (Szent Endre).
Recent decades have seen major changes in the life of Szentendre as a result of the rapidly growing tourism industry, thanks to the historical atmosphere of the town's streets, its art life, as well as the Hungarian Open-Air Museum (Szentendrei Szabadtéri Néprajzi Múzeum, Skanzen) which visualises rural life in Hungary.
Szentendre was awarded the Hild Medal in 1980 in recognition of its successes in town development and in preserving its traditions.

Hello George,
nice shot of this beautiful Orthodox cathedral with the vivid light to falls on its facade.Strange architectural line for an Orthodox church but as you write in your note it has affected from the Baroque style.I like the extraordinary color that is painted.Informative and useful your note.

George, this is a really superb shot, the tree in the fg has a great effect of making the church seem even taller that it might otherwise be. Colors are awesome. Well seen.

Hello George, I like this frontage which seems behind a "S" traced by the trees, the tree hiding place a part of the building, but without reducing the interest and by adding even a beautiful key of nature, pretty photo of a historic site which obviously guard still its secrecies. It is always difficult to obtain a pleasant image with such contrasts (sky, cloché, red and yellow rock, shades) you knew well to manage this whole of constraints, sincerely

Bonjour George,
je suis séduit par les couleurs et les parfaites lumičres. Le cadrage avec le format vertical font un bon duo.
Juste au niveau du POv , un petit regret, les branches cachent un peu ce bel édifice.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hello George,
A splendid capture of this beautiful church, whose colours make a very pleasing contrast with the lovely blue sky. The point of view is well chosen and you benefited from a very nice light. Superb colours and clarity. Well done.

Szia George,
the missing leaves tell us that this is a true winter capture even in that warm light and colourful sky. Lovely architecture and I am astonished about the warm colour on the cathedral.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf
