Szentendre is a riverside town in Pest county, Hungary, near the capital city Budapest. It is known for its museums (most notably the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum), galleries, and artists.
The name of the town is ultimately based on the Medieval Latin form Sankt Andrae (English: St.Andrew). Because of the diverse mix of nations to have once settled in Szentendre, the settlement has a variety of names according to language. The Hungarian name for the town is Szentendre; the German name is Sankt Andrä; in Serbian, the name is Sentandreja (Serbian Cyrillic: Сентандреја); the Slovak name is Svätý Ondrej.
Populated for well over a millennium in ancient times, under the Romans it was called Ulcisia Castra, meaning Wolf Castle for their fort.
Since the Middle Ages, Szentendre and the surrounding villages had also been settled by many Bulgarians. In 1690, the Serbian teacher and hegumen Stevan wrote that Szentendre was called Bolgarija by some. The Bulgarian neighbourhood included Catholic settlers from Chiprovtsi and a Roman Catholic "Chiprovtsi church" (Csiprovacska templom). The names of many locals show Bulgarian ancestry.
Since the 16th century, the town was considered the centre of the Serb community in this part of Hungary. At one point it had as many as eight Serbian Orthodox church buildings and three chapels, and only one each Roman-Catholic and Evangelical. It is still the see of the Buda Diocese of the Serb Orthodox Church.
In the 18th century, after liberation from the Ottomans, the Crown recruited farmers and artisans from Germany and southern Slavs to repopulate areas that had been occupied by the Ottomans. Szentendre enjoyed a rebirth, with new settlers including Serbian, Croatian, Slovak, and Greek immigrants, who settled alongside the Magyar residents. According to the 1720 data, 88% of the population of the town were South Slavs (mostly Serbs, but also some South Slavic Catholics). The town to this day is characterised by southern European elements, including baroque architecture, churches of various faiths, narrow side-streets, and cobblestone roads.

Great positioning of the bell tower inside the frame, nicely using the thirds to create a very attractive composition. The cobblestones make lovely texture and a lovely leading view into the image, as we pass by all the people walking around and then up into the pastel colors of the buildings. A very quaint and attractive looking place, and really nicely done with the difficult light.

Well chosen side POV to present the colourful facade and the bell tower. Like the extent to which you show the cobbled path to lead the viewer to the bell tower. Good framing and composition. Well managed light in difficult situations. Nice shot with natural colours and light. Thanks for sharing.

C'est dans les premiers temps de la photographie numérique et tu as trouvé un bel endroit pour expérimenter.J'aime beaucoup cette scène de rue, le point de vue très bas et les belles couleurs. L'ensemble est très profond.

pretty little town and well presented in your photography. The lower POV gives nice perspective and the picture gets good bit of cobbled street in the foreground. The houses at the street attract the eye by the vivid colors and lead it towards the tower of the church.
Good perspective and well balanced composition.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day

This is a truly ancient town.
Here you have shown us something of the character of the inhabitants, with their cheerful coloured houses and alfresco dining opportunities.
You have chosen a fine viewpoint, giving a good lead into the shot, with lots of fine architectural and textural details on offer. I do like to feel that I am sharing the scene with the pedestrians, who are all moving in the same direction.
Have a great w/e,

I think that you spent some time studying composition and wisely waited for the time without big crowd around. The framing is spot on - you have positioned the walkway nicely on the left side and the houses with the church on the right side, in this way you have created excellent balance and harmony. The foreground interest is abundant in nice details; and the bright sky is creating excellent contrasting background. I like this photo a lot.
Very well done.
Wish you a very nice weekend.

Like your very colourful daily scene in Szentendre.
Great dog, might be a Rhodesian ridgeback(my favourite dog, especially as I left Rhodesia 1976 before it changed to Zimbabwe)
Lots to see and admire, great architecture, a place I intend to visit one day. Well managed and presented.
Hope you have a pleasant weekend.

Hi Stephen - The colourful facades brighten up the shady street in this nicely composed shot. The bell tower is well placed within the frame and the man and his dog balance the shot very well. This looks to be a charming place to visit. Warm regards Rosemary

Good perspective from diagonal angle upon the coblestones pedestrian road and the beautiful old buildings along, with the church tower prominently above.
People whose strolled along, gave vivid and dynamism tones to the whole.
We were there in 5/2007 and there is a marzipan museum, a picture once I had posted indoor's .

a charming and interesting picture with great depth and fine, smooth perspective. I like very much the rewarding view over the colourful, elegant facades as well as the movement along the cobblestone. It's intriguing how nearly all the people (and the dog:) are headed to the same direction. The composition culminates with the tower but there are many interesting details and colours that make the whole of the view significant and pleasant. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
