Szentendre is a riverside town in Pest county, Hungary, near the capital city Budapest. It is known for its museums (most notably the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum), galleries, and artists.
The name of the town is ultimately based on the Medieval Latin form Sankt Andrae (English: St.Andrew). Because of the diverse mix of nations to have once settled in Szentendre, the settlement has a variety of names according to language. The Hungarian name for the town is Szentendre; the German name is Sankt Andrä; in Serbian, the name is Sentandreja (Serbian Cyrillic: Сентандреја); the Slovak name is Svätý Ondrej.
Populated for well over a millennium in ancient times, under the Romans it was called Ulcisia Castra, meaning Wolf Castle for their fort.
Since the Middle Ages, Szentendre and the surrounding villages had also been settled by many Bulgarians. In 1690, the Serbian teacher and hegumen Stevan wrote that Szentendre was called Bolgarija by some. The Bulgarian neighbourhood included Catholic settlers from Chiprovtsi and a Roman Catholic "Chiprovtsi church" (Csiprovacska templom). The names of many locals show Bulgarian ancestry.
Since the 16th century, the town was considered the centre of the Serb community in this part of Hungary. At one point it had as many as eight Serbian Orthodox church buildings and three chapels, and only one each Roman-Catholic and Evangelical. It is still the see of the Buda Diocese of the Serb Orthodox Church.
In the 18th century, after liberation from the Ottomans, the Crown recruited farmers and artisans from Germany and southern Slavs to repopulate areas that had been occupied by the Ottomans. Szentendre enjoyed a rebirth, with new settlers including Serbian, Croatian, Slovak, and Greek immigrants, who settled alongside the Magyar residents. According to the 1720 data, 88% of the population of the town were South Slavs (mostly Serbs, but also some South Slavic Catholics). The town to this day is characterised by southern European elements, including baroque architecture, churches of various faiths, narrow side-streets, and cobblestone roads.

bello il pov, la ripresa dal basso ci da un punto di vista molto ampio, con la tessitura della pavimentazione e slancia il monumento verso il cielo.
Bello il gioco di linee creato dai tetti e la differente colorazione delle facciate.

Good Morning Stephen,
One of the charms about TE is its similarity to having most interesting history lessons. We certainly learn much about areas that we may never visit.
This is delightful.
Yes, the cross is interesting but what catches my eye are the lovely buildings with their colourful facades, highly textured roves and metal window covers. The cobbled street adds to the ambience.
Have a great day,

The town's cross is well protected by its wrought iron fence, each corner graced by a pollarded tree. The cobbled stones and neat facades suggest that the little town is well cared for a a pleasant place to visit. Is that embroidered lace-work I see hanging up for sale? I do like hand made textiles. Nicely composed with an attractive and harmonious colour palette.
Warm regards Rosemary

Superb shot and expressive crop, it's the combination of contrasting colors, the nice houses facades and the cross in foreground that caught attentions. Charming hoses facade with delicate details and a lively human presence gives a nice touch to the image. The lighting is pleasantly exposed achieving an appealing effect with your exquisite work.

That's a beautiful focal point for the town, and your decision to display it against the classical architecture is a very nice one too, as it gives a lovely feel as to the spirit of the place. The low vantage point taking in the cobblestones is nicely thought out too, leading well to the old cross. It seems to lean a little too, and that adds to the charm of this place and scene.
Thanks as always

Ciao e buona giornata

Like your low Pov, looking up to this magnificent Town Cross then onto the super rooftops and then a glimpse of a Church tower, wonderful.
Great colours, well managed and interesting note about Szentendre.
We were lashed with 60 mph winds and rain last night, some parts of the country 105mph was record with a red light warning, and still more to come.
Hope you guys are having better weather.

Salut cher Stephen
A beautifully composed photo. The larger format has had a great effect here and I love the strong colours and contrasts. The architecture is delightful, demonstrating impressive textures from the cobblestones and the roof.
Warmest wishes for the weekend, thanks for sharing

I like the flattened perspective from the zoom. The person window shopping animates the scene. Good sharpness overall and attractive pastel colours. I like the symmetry between the cross and the bg steeple. Tfs!

Les maisons cadrent bien la croix. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de la croix. La bonne luminosité met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

I saw szentendre some years ago, there in the knee of tha Danube. I recognize the cross. Nice to see it again. I do not have photos of my own from that place.
Well captured on a day with moderat sun. You bring over nicely the atmosphere of the town, and the upright frame suits the purpose fine.
