Photographer's Note
This large highly decorated fountain stands on the Elizabeth square (Erzsébet tér) in Budapest. This is the first of many decorated fountains of Budapest which was designed only as decoration. The earlier ones were used to provide water for the public. A bank commissioned the famous architect Miklos Ybl to design it, and it was unveiled in 1853 on Kalvin square, where a bank had one of its buildings. The fountain was badly damaged during world war II, but it was faithfully restored and rebuilt on it present location in 1959. The allegorical figures of the fountain represent the four large rivers of Hungary. The male figure on the top represents Duna (Danubius), and three young ladies below represent the other three rivers (Tisza, Szava and Drava) Only two is visible on this picture, in the Workshop you can see an enlarged view of them.
