Not a very orginal picture this, but one of my favourite places, the Gellert baths in Budapest. I posted a shot of the pools in Eger a little while ago. The pools in Budapest tend to be these very grand bath houses, but still with some hot pools outside, right in the middle of town (see workshop). This is the main pool, either side of it are more grand pool rooms but these single sex, and with massage and steam room facilities.

That's a great looking scene... I don't thing I've seen photos of this place before. Very well composed, giving us a full view of all the elements there.
Burnham (2428) 2004-05-11 11:57
I've been there once, and I understand why it's a favourite place of yours. Nice shot, I did a workshop hope you like it.

I think on the contrary, than to find a swimming pool in this kind of architecture is very unforeseen.
this image is really beautiful and the contrats hot with this green water returned very well.
mimi (2325) 2004-05-11 12:21
Great shot, Richard. This one is definitely on my agenda. I like the off-center angle here and the way the columns lead your eye down the shot.
photosettle (1532) 2004-05-11 12:24
Nice exposure and tonal range.
Zanni (6108) 2004-05-11 12:34
It seems an exclusive swimming pool, only for rich guys. I'd be get frightened swimming there. It is really an unusual place to have a bath. You did well to post it. The quality of the picture is out of discussion.
Jeppe (18654) 2004-05-11 12:36
Oh lovely shot - and place as well - I can understand why you like this :-)
I believe to have seen this on TV - Very fine work Richard - I like to watch this and would like to visit my self.
izanoza (777) 2004-05-11 13:02
It's wonderful pool! Good shot. Maybe you might crop a little bit from above. Anyway, very well done, Richard!
waskahegan (0) 2004-05-11 15:27
This swimming pool is fit for kings! you did a great job at the composition and perspective
omritoppol (826) 2004-05-11 18:25
Very impressive pool - i like the wide angle you choose which allows us a quick jump into it. Great Richard
eleparc (24063) 2004-05-11 18:49

ChrisJ (94844) 2004-05-12 3:37
Looks like a Roman bath. Could be a bit sharper.
ianmcall (1213) 2004-05-12 5:18
I enjoyed the Hungarian baths I went to. The only similar ones I've seen were in...Bath, the ancient Roman ones.
You have lovely light throughout the shot here Richard, except that one pillar on the left, very pleasing generally.
jamie_holden (882) 2004-05-12 16:24
Wow, this is very grand! Reminds me of a pool I went to in Prague where we had to pay by the minute - quite different from pools over here in England.

This is beautiful interior, Richard!
I like the contrast between the blue water and the golden roof. Nice soft light. Well captured.
joseelias (0) 2004-05-14 8:06
Excelente atmosphere and colors. The slightly uncenterd view create a nice composition.
yesterday (9833) 2004-05-14 11:31
Excellent light and contrast, very good color in photo, vell compoced, look's great.
Midnight_sun (1941) 2004-05-15 12:58
I remember this place, its very nice, very opulent. I preferred the bath behind you, it was warmer! This is a classic tourist brochure photo, well done.
nwoehnl (122) 2004-05-16 4:29
Well, I like this view, much-photographed or not - maybe because I'm a sucker for wide(r) angle shots. You managed to capture the pool activity as well as the architectural grandeur of the place. Technically the shot is impeccable for its sharpness, colors and light. The outside view you posted in the WS is good complementary piece.
rabani (9645) 2004-05-21 5:36
There is a sense of warmth, but balanced out with the body of water, in this photo. I could hear echos among those pillars. My first view of an indoor swimming pool minus the customary plant and umbrellas. Just great to be in TE.
Hanssie (10345) 2004-05-22 3:46
This is really an East-European scene !
A good light and a lot of details.
roconnell (327) 2004-06-06 5:24
Wow. It would be grand to swim in such a pool. The photo captures such elegance with the detail and the wonderful contrasts between the blue water and gold ceiling. There is also a very relaxed atmosphere, with just as many folks sitting in chairs at the poolside as people in the water. Well done.
ceden (85) 2004-06-21 9:05
This shot is great. The scene is very decadent, it must be unusual to have a swimming pool is such a beautiful building?
Philip (372) 2004-06-22 18:45
Richard, This looks more like the interior of a historic church than a swimming pool. Anyway, it is a great picture and I apppreciate your comments on my photos.
robiuk (10807) 2004-06-25 13:40
Lovely! Brings back sweet memories! ;-D
I feel so sad knowing that many baths/pools like this have gradually been closed during past 20-30 years; thinking of those all over central Europe.
Thanks for this one, Richard!
kaychambers (1198) 2004-06-30 4:33
Looks like my bathroom!
Nicely captured...a fine image in all respects....

really good shot for a beautiful swimming pool.
It looks like a king's swimming pool. :)
The compo is good with lots of details.
prlcs (63) 2004-07-27 7:02
Très bon cadrage et très belles couleurs pour une piscine inhabituelle chez moi... Bravo Richard !
ChristianS (2997) 2004-09-06 14:15
Nice perspective and use of light!
France (125) 2004-09-19 6:19
I love this photo, for the beauty of the place and for the composition. The perspective is excellent without deformation of the columns nor reducing lines. The colors are very pleasant, the blue of water, the white of the balconies and yellow of the canopy and the columns. The swimmers are well placed. The depth of field is maximum. Moreover, that looks like the decoration of an adventure PC game created last year: Siberia.
Oldtree (2457) 2004-10-13 10:07
I think all have been said already. It's amazingly sharp and clear. Very good shot.
Homerhomer (4080) 2004-10-21 13:19
Great capture, good example of how history can be preserved and used in modern times.
aella (117) 2004-11-22 21:16
A very interesting photo. The theme is absolutely in the spirit of TrekEarth (I never realized swimming pools like that existed, except maybe in ultra-fashionable spas) and it's pretty good technically. I like the yellow-blue contrast and the composition which showcases well the architecture. My only complaint is that the swimmers in the foreground are not very well lit; too bad they weren't just a tad farther away from you.
ckkay (16) 2004-11-27 17:51
Congrats on a beautiful shot! Love the glow of the lights and pool water.
kLe (2196) 2004-12-24 6:30
Beatiful pool. In this pic I like the colour tones and the details of the different columns.
Skarrlette (96) 2005-01-03 19:38

nebeesley (77) 2005-03-25 18:04
I've been to Budapest and saw this pool but through the glass doors, I remember paying a lot at the door just to get through to the landing only!Didn't get to take a picture eighter. were going to buy a postcard but non of them were as good as your shot, so thank you for sharing yours :)
I love the perspective, the colors and the light very much. Atmosphere well captured.

Perhaps a little tilt, but a nice photo.

Hello Richard, very nice shot of Gellert, I also used to go there quite regularly for a swim when I lived there... :-)
andronikkie (75) 2005-08-27 21:58
This picture has very beautiful colors (blue, yellow, cream white) and composition. However... I think I would like it better if it was more centered! Well done anyways!
ton (82) 2005-09-25 23:50
Hi Richard! Very nice place you have here. I like the transition of the shadow and highlights among the posts. nice shot!
It's similar to the place they shoot the movie "Cocoon".
chack (0) 2005-10-07 9:53
Wow i think this is the best Swimming pool i have ever seen.Look like it belong to the Rich and the Famous thanks for sharing.
keribar (43841) 2005-11-03 1:03
I've been there some 10 years ago, and visited the Gellert Hotel, even went into the pool: I also took a few pictures but non as good as this one. I like it because the exposure is just perfect, the sharpness also. and there's life everywhere: The combination of the yellow roof with the blue-green is also a major attraction for me. Izzet
Dragut (14) 2009-05-03 9:45
