Debrecen ha forti tradizioni commerciali (che ha un ruolo simile in Ungheria come Bologna, 'La Grassa' è in Italia: centro educativo finanziato dai ricchi della società civile). Uomini d'affari locali sono stati intensamente partecipa al finanziamento del Collegio nel 16° secolo e università enorme edificio nel 1932 (durante la crisi finanziaria in tutto il mondo!).

Evocative brief historical overview of the university:
This building of the University was erected in 1932 to repatriate to Hungary the Faculities of the University of Kolozsvár after it became part of Romania after the peace treaty of 1918.

The legendary Reformated College of Debrecen was found in 1538, then many filials were settled in various Hungarian cities and towns, where there was quite enough population of calvinist, or as it was once called in Hungary 'helvetian' religion.

Today Debrecen is the cultural centre of the Northeastern, Subcarpathian (Ukraina) and the Western Transylvanian (Romania) Hungarian people and Hungarian centre of reformated church (Debrecen is often called as calvinist Rome). The neighbouring countryside is the territory of Hortobagy (the world famed 'puszta', listed as UNESCO World Heritage, National Park).

Debrecen has really strong commercial traditions (it has a similar role in Hungary like Bologna, 'La Grassa' has in Italy: educational centre financed by rich civil society). Local businessmen were intensively taking part in financing the College in the 16th century and huge university building in the 1932 (during the worldwide financial crisis!).
