One more photo from the surreal landscape of Gyali island, very close to Nisyros. ***HERE*** , a wider colour photo from the same place. I hope that you wouldn't mind if copy the note of that "old" post.

I first saw this island (also a volcanic one, like Nisyros), from the ship. Gyali island is very close to Nisyros (in fact it belongs to Nisyros Municipality). When I arrived, I asked the locals about how could I get to Gyali and they told me that the only way, was to wake up very early in the morning and try to get myself in the boat, that every days carries the Nisyrian people that work in Gyali in the pumice quarry.

So, one morning I was at the port of Mandraki at 6.30 and I asked the workers if I could go with them. They told me yes, but they weren't sure if I could get permision to get photos, because these quarries belong to a company called "LAVA", which is the largest company in pumice production of the world (1.000.000 tones per year!). Anyway I decided to take my chances.

When I reached there, after a 15 minutes boatride, the general manager, Mr. Christoforakis, not only gave me permision to take photos, but also gave me a great company, a fine gentleman, Mr. Costas Vasileiou, who was my driver and my guide in a small tour around this unbelievable island, that besides this amazing, "surreal" landscape, has also 2 beautiful beaches.

Hi,Neighbour,Hercules,
It does look alien, reminding a bit the Melnik natural pyramids:)
I like your solution to present it in BW.It's very stylish.
You've really had a sudden luck.
It seems, Mr. Christoforakis also like shooting with his camera.

Inredible place, superb geo forms. B&W is better imo.

Hello Hercules, You must have known immediately that this would look fantastic in B&W. The strong shapes and high contrast are perfect for this treatment. Thank you for giving us another view of this remarkable place!
Best wishes....Maggie

A great idea to convert this to b&w, a beautiful image!! Very nice contrast. The color version is also very pretty. TFS and have a happy day!

Hello Hercules,
It's really a surreal landscape with these impressive rocks, good light and sharpness.
Regards

it is indeed surreal, especially because of your sepia choice. very simple yet impressive cadrage gives the impression of a statue...apparently a place worth seeing. very well done.
best wishes,
fusun

Hola fiera.

Angel.

Hi Irakli
Your photo reminds me so many things; first of all fair chimneys in Cappadocia, then a sci-fi movie taken on Mars or some other planet, or a desert movie where Egyptian dancers will be seen soon between the rock formations... But for me yours is the nicest interpretion; "natural sculpture exhibition"...
The colorful version is also very nice, since rocks are not all in the same color it has a nice view. But B&W is also very nice, I couldn't think of sci-fi movie unless it was B&W..
Greetings,
Burcu

Hi Hercules,
This shot is great in color, but this black and white is better. Great contrasts and the depth and details are excellent. Well done and TFS. Gerald

Really surreal, i think the transformation to b&w works well with the sky well polarized (i guess) with the shadows of the natural sculpture well seen. Well done.

Hi Hercules

The one in B&W is more impressive than the coloured one. More dramatic..giving suspends to earth...You're arrived in Zeus Room ;-))

Hi Hercules,

Amazing landscape, it does not look litke earth... The B&W makes it even more impressive! Great one!

Regards,

Flavia

Kalispera Hercules.

Abrazos.

Hello Hercules

a truly superb blac and white which emphasizes the abstract beauty of this location.

Congratulations

Emmanuel

Another world?Another country?Surreal indeed!
Many thanks for providing us another Greece!
Take care,m

Amazing to see such rock formations, they remind me a bit of Cappadocia but the forms are more square... I was also interested in the WS but the B&W version is so much better, the deep blue sky translated into dark night with such a contrast with the white of the rocks : great !
Very impressive, compliments,
Cath.
