Olives for neighbours Photo

Photographer’s Note

This abandoned cottage or 'kalivi' would once have housed livestock at one end and simple living accommodation ( with a sleeping platform in the apex of the roof) at the other. It is situated in an old olive grove. I have added a shot of the exterior of the building in a WS
I took 3 bracketed exposures and chose the best average result. I had then to increase the contrast on the view through the door into bright sunlight, and increase the brightness on the dark interior.

Very nice work! I love the olive trees! The both atmospheres have very warm colours. With some imagination, I can hear and smell it! Very good idea to paste two exposures of the same scene.

Excellent DRI photo. Great result concerning the merging.
What I do not like is the disturbing ladder, but this belong even to this old kaliva.

Hello Maggie,a good shot from the inside of the building, was the roof still intact?
I like the view of the olive trees which puts the building into context.
Your pp work has resulted in a fine shot.

hello Maggie,
excellent light management. The thumbnail doesn't do this picture justice.I like the warm tones and textures of the stone and the stepladder is an added bonus. The view out to the olive trees has me longing to return to Greece. I like the way the doorway acts as a frame.Lovely atmosphere.I haven't been to Skopelos and so i await your pictures from here with interest.

A wonderful photo. It really shows the picture perfect ambient of the Greek scenery. An innovative approach, and a fine execution. The play of light and shadows is a fine detail here, while the whole thing is well post-processed.

Hello Maggie,

Most people would have taken a shot of this interesting building as shown in your w/s. You have fine 'vision' to go beyond the normal! The result is an exquisite shot, showing two different environments and as you added in your notes, needing differnt treatments.
Lovely details of the hut and a fine view of the exterior enticing our eyes outside!

nice shot from inside out the little abandoned cottage.Really these kalivia used to collect farmers their goods.I like the result of the tree bracketed exposures,with the interior to be well lighted.Well done.

Hello Maggie,
I think there is no need to praise the esthetic values of the pictures. (Keywords: combining two worlds by looking through effect, one human made unliving and the other natural living, the contrast of materials of the house, the contrast between the outer and the inner atmosphere.) I think this is one of your best.
I appreciate the technical perfection. Unfortunately the digital cameras are not as flexible as the human eye therefore the photographer has to extend somehow the limits of the equipment. In this case it was difficult but you have solved it perfectly.

factor" as it's like opening the Pandora's box - all of a
