Photographer’s Note
During the Greek War of Independence, Nafplion was a major Ottoman stronghold and was besieged for a year by Theodoros Kolokotronis. Akronauplia, and then Palamidi, finally surrendered because of starvation. After its capture, because of its strong fortifications, it became the seat of the provisional governments of Greece, and Kapodistrias made it the official capital of Greece in 1829. After his assassination there in 1831 a period of anarchy followed, until the arrival of King Otto and the establishment of the new Kingdom of Greece. Nafplion remained the capital of the kingdom until 1834, when King Otto decided to move the capital to Athens
In front of this church Agios Spyrigon in 1831 Kapodistrias, first Prime Minister of young Greece was assassinated.

Hi Argyris,
You merged the history and splendid roof views excellently. I like authentic architectures with white facades but especially terracotta roof tiles and their amazing textures a lot too. Great view from top, congratulations. Have a nice new week.
Best Regards,

Hi Argyris,
Beautiful composition with these red roofs and a lot of different tiles in burnt siena. It's interesting and graphical, too. Your note is very informative. Good job. Regards, Consuelo

It is a very beautiful sight of these roofs with curved tiles of the Peloponnese. Those of the foreground ( the ancient) are particularly beautiful with all these nuances of colors. Your POV is excellent.
I think more particularly to you and all my Greek friends today by hoping that you had no problems with your friends and your family after the earthquake of yesterday.

Geia sou Argyri,
Nafplio is a great place for good roof views from those high city walls! Your shot shows how interesting and attractive these roofs are.
Your note is interesting too - I have a reproduction, in a book, of a painting by Peter von Hess 'Entry of King Otto of Greece into Nafplia February 6th 1833 ' which shows very clearly the beseiged city in the background as well as the important figures in the foreground.
Best wishes....Maggie
