Dedicaded to my friend in T.E. Thomas -syd 1946- from Thessaloniki.

Η Θεσσαλονίκη είναι μία ιστορική πόλη της Ελλάδας και των Βαλκανίων. Στη μακρά ιστορική της πορεία βρέθηκε υπό την κατοχή διαφόρων λαών και απετέλεσε τόπο πολιτισμικής σύγκλισης πολλών εθνοτήτων. Από το 1912 και τη λήξη του Α’ Βαλκανικού Πολέμου αποτελεί τη δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη πόλη του σύγχρονου ελληνικού κράτους και σήμερα είναι η μεγαλύτερη πόλη της Μακεδονίας και πρωτεύουσα της περιφέρειας Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας, με πληθυσμό 800.764 κατοίκους (2001).

Η ίδρυσή της συμπίπτει με την αρχή της ελληνιστικής εποχής, την ανάληψη δηλαδή της οικουμενικής αυτοκρατορίας του Μεγάλου Αλεξάνδρου από τους επιγόνους του και την κυριαρχία του ελληνικού πολιτισμού στο μεγαλύτερο τμήμα του γνωστού, για τον τότε δυτικό άνθρωπο, κόσμου. Ο κληρονόμος του βασιλείου της Μακεδονίας και σύζυγος της ετεροθαλούς αδελφής του Αλεξάνδρου, Κάσσανδρος, ίδρυσε την πόλη συνενώνοντας 26 πολίχνες, που βρίσκονταν γύρω από το Θερμαϊκό κόλπο, και της έδωσε το όνομα της γυναίκας του, θυγατέρας του Φιλίππου Β’, Θεσσαλονίκης (όνομα που προήλθε μετά από επιτυχή έκβαση μάχης επί των Θεσσαλών).

Thessaloniki (Greek: Θεσσαλονίκη, IPA: [θesaloˈnikʲi]) or Salonica is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of Macedonia, the nation's largest region. It is the largest city in the wider geographical region of Macedonia, and also one of the largest cities in southeastern Europe. The Thessaloniki Urban Area extends around the Thermaic Gulf for approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) and comprises 16 municipalities. According to the 2001 census, the municipality of Thessaloniki had a population of 363,987, while the metropolitan population approximates one million inhabitants.

Thessaloniki is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe; its commercial port is also of great importance for Greece and its southeast European hinterland. It is traditional for the country's Prime Minister to set out his government's policies for each coming year in a speech at the annual Thessaloniki International Trade Fair.

Salonicco (in greco Θεσσαλονίκη, Thessaloniki) è la seconda città della Grecia per numero di abitanti e la prima e più importante della regione greca della Macedonia. È inoltre il capoluogo della Prefettura di Salonicco, e della Regione UE (o dell'equivalente periferia greca) della Macedonia Centrale. Conta circa 363.978 abitanti, mentre l'area urbana 800.764.

L'area metropolitana ha un totale di circa un milione di abitanti, e giace su una baia del Golfo Termaico alla testa della penisola calcidica. Le coordinate della città sono: 40° 38' N e 22° 58' E.
La città venne fondata attorno al 315 a.C. da Cassandro, Re dei Macedoni, nelle vicinanze o sul luogo dove sorgeva l'antica città di Therma e diversi altri villaggi. Cassandro le diede il nome di sua moglie Tessalonica, che era anche sorellastra di Alessandro Magno. Ella venne così chiamata dal padre, Filippo II di Macedonia, per commemorare la sua nascita nel giorno in cui egli ottenne una vittoria (nike) sui Tessalici.

Hi dear Costantino,
Very nice pov and perfect moment you've captured here. Good compo and very nice notes as well. A real TE job done.
Maybe a little bit too sharp. Try to add smart blur in order to get rid of the grains.

Hello Costantino,

The image seem oversharpened but overall is very nice and interesting. The fisherman seem very pleasant with his fishing catch. Th colours are soft and nice under the light conditions. Nice work and excellent note. Cheers!

Θα μας κάνει το τραπέζι το βράδυ. Μου άρεσε η καθαρότητα της φωτογραφίας σου, η επιλογή του κάδρου σου καθώς και η λαμπερές αντανακλάσεις της. Η οξύτητα είναι λίγο παραπάνω απ' ότι θα ήθελα. Πολύ καλό συνολικά αποτέλεσμα

Hi Costantino,

An excellent shot of a city fisher man. I believe that they look very much the same all over the world. Plenty of time, makes it comfortable for themselves and have prepared for staying there for a while. Luck and happiness for a fisherman is not always to catch a big fish, but more the opportunity to catch a big one. This feeling is really well captured in your picture. He looks satisfied even though the fish is not very big. TFS and have a nice Sunday evening!

Hi Costantino,

Yes he's lucky fisherman but must be stay there long time for enough fishes. I know many kind of small fishes are delicious but here Suriname not people, even other fishes are not eats this small one ;)

You perfectly fixed a daily scene and your excellent timing captured his expression naturally. Great addition of "modern" city texture at next shore for giving more info about Thessaloniki. Congratulations. Have a nice new week.

Il est vrai que sa pêche ne nourrira pas toute une famille, mais est-ce bien le but d'un pêcheur.
Vous avez parfaitement saisi la posture du pêcheur.
La composition est bien vue et originale.

Hi Costantino,

what a nice place for fishing (at least for taking a rest). The textures of the calm water makes their part in the compo. I also like to see the buildings on the back and the inclusion of the human element which is so essential to the compo. Great job!

Great POV and timing. I like the big V or trapezoid shape of the water, its texture and glow. Interestingly the buildings on the BG have the same colour of the water. The fisherman is well placed and features a nice pose. I guess he was as (un)lucky as my 10 years son, who caught only one fish (probably not bigger than this) in a whole fishing day with his grandfather. :-)
