Photographer’s Note

The Church of Agios Mamas
Agios Mamas is one of the oldest churches of Naxos, dating from the 9th century.
The Church of Agios Mamas is famous for its fine cross, sculptures and murals and is dedicated to Agios Mamas,patron of the shepherds.
Because it is so old, it is believed that this church once housed the Orthodox cathedral before the Venetian occupation (1207).
Visitor can found this interesting and beautiful church behind the village of Potamia.

Same information from the 'discovery'of San Mamas.

It is found in the middle of a plain far from the central street roughly 1,5Km. It is appearred from a specific point of street and unfortunately does not exist also a traffic plate to lead you.
In order to find it,I searched 30 min and I asked a lot of people.After ones comes out of the main street,there is an earthly little alley that someone hardly can drive.Somewhere in a point stops and with the legs finally no one can approach the church of Saint Mamas.

Η εκκλησία του Αγίου Μάμα είναι μια από τις παλαιότερες εκκλησίες της Νάξου που χρονολογείται από τον 9ο αιώνα.
Είναι φημησμένη για τον εξαίρετο σταυρό,τα γλυπτά και τις τοιχογραφίες της.Ο Άγιος Μάμας είναι προστάτης των βοσκών.
Εξ αιτίας της παλαιότητάς της πιστεύεται ότι ήταν Μητρόπολη των Ορθοδόξων μέχρι την κατάληψη του νησιού από τους Ενετούς το 1207.Ευρίσκεται κοντά στο χωριό της Μεσοποταμιάς.

Hola Danos, preciosa la foto muy buen colorido y nitided tambien, buen trabajo lo que si que para que quedara mejor si la sacaras un poquito mas a la derecha estaría mas preciosa, por lo de la regla de los tercios, pero esta bien animo un saludo

Ωωωω "τρελαίομαι" για τέτοια παλιά μνημεία, το καδράρισες πολύ καλά και στο σημείο εκεί ανάμεσα στους λόφους και τα όμορφα φυσικά χρώματα αν δεν περάσει κανένας αυτοκινητόδρομος θα αντέξει ακόμα για πολλά πολλά χρόνια. Ο ουρανός είναι επίσης πολύ καλός.

this one reminds me of the small byzantine chapels in cyprus, quite charming... i also like the surrounding landscape... the church is a bit too centered in the compo but still a good shot dano...

That's for sure an old church. I agree with Korkut about the centered composition, a POV more to the right and a framig with the church on the left, would result in a composition with the hills on the right side behind the church..again on the right side of the photo, but fully in the frame, and the church on the far left. That would be interesting I guess! Anyhow, it's a very old building in a nice landscape. Fine colours, contrast and sharpness. So that's well done.

Hi Danos,

Beautiful old church .. I love the way the roof and steeple feel echoed in the distant peaks .. for that reason I would keep this crop and not use the one in the workshop. I think it is the hill .. the church feels a little tilted to the right .. I think the ridge is level though .. so I think it is just the hill .. beautiful evocative old building .. really great point of view ..

I am very impressed about this old church! Form the Ninth Century! You have chosen a very interesting view to show the maximun number of details of this amazing place full of history, it reminds me the Romanic Architecture given in Northern Spain during this time!

Olá Danos, fascinating church with a good view of the surrounding landscape, where I can see a glimpse of some mountain peaks in the background. The church is indeed to centered, but I prefer this way than with the crop that you did in WS, because I like the right side of the landscape and cloud. May be cropping at left, but never mind, it's not so important. I liked a lot the frontal façade as well. Thanks for sharing this interesting place.

Quel plaisir de pouvoir contempler une église datant du neuvième siècle. En France, il est pratiquement impossible de trouver une église de cette époque (hormis des ruines), les nombreuses guerres et autres périodes troubles de l'histoire en sont vraisemblablement la cause.
Mille mercis, mon ami, de nous offrir un tel spectacle à travers ces prises de vue.

A very special architecture which has a lot of charm with its (very) old stones. It is situated in a nice environment with in FG the green/golden grass and in BG the terraces, top of the mounts giving a sense of depth . The orange flowers in FG add a final touch to your compo.

Πραγματικά πολλή ωραία φωτογραφία, μας δείχνει όλο το μεγαλείο της φύσης ολόγυρα με το εκκλησάκι στη μέση. Ωστόσο με προβληματίζει κάπως το εκτεταμένο κάδρο αλλά και η καθαρότητα. Γι' αυτό, έφτιαξα ένα workshop για να παρουσιάσω την δική μου άποψη επί της φωτογραφίας σου.

I strolled through your collection and this one caught my eyes. Here I like the summerly atmosphere and the venerable, somehow touching little church - embedded in pure nature. I also like the natural colours and the fact that show us the surroundings of the building. A beutiful scenery and I think I can hear the crickets ... ;-)

Ενας ναος στη μεση του "πουθενα" μα τοσο αρμονικα δεμενος με το περιβαλλοντα χωρο.
Μ αρεσει η γωνια που διαλεξες γιατι απρικονιζει ολα τα στοιχεια που περιβαλλουν το κυριως θεμα σου.Ο ουρανος και η γη παρουσιαζονται πολυ καλα με ισορροπημενα το φως και την οξυτητα.

Η φωτογραφία της πολύ παλιάς αυτής εκκλησίας είναι αρκετά καλή και για την γωνία από την οποία την τράβηξες αλλά και για την ύπαρξη της ευρύτερης περιοχής μέσα στο κάδρο. Η εγκατάλειψη σε όλο το μεγαλείο της! Ούτε σταυρός υπάρχει, ούτε κάποια αποψίλωση (τι λέω τώρα;), και από ότι κατάλαβα ούτε κάποια πινακίδα που να πληροφορεί την ύπαρξη αυτού του μνημείου. Ας ελπίσουμε κάτι να αλλάξει στο μέλλον και η παρουσίαση που έκανες να λειτουργήσει ως μοχλός πίεσης προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση. Συγχαρητήρια.

Όμορφη σύνθεση με αρκετούς χρωματικούς τόνους. Η όψη της μέσα στο χόρτα και χωρίς κάποιο εμφανές μονοπάτι είναι σαν να έχει φυτρώσει εκει και να έχει γεράσει με το πέρασμα των χρόνων.
