Photographer’s Note

Hi there,

Well that's been a while since my last photo!! The last photo was my 100th photo, but it was not an occasion to 'celebrate' that (not at all), as a few of you might have seen in the note accompanied with that photo.
Originally I planned a selfportrait for the #100 photo, but as you can read in the former photo's note, something (for me) more important came in between and I had to post that photo as a dedication.
But here it is, the photo I wanted to be #100!
101 is also a nice number, so why not post it now instead :).

This is thus a selfpotrait, I've been inspired by others who did put a selfportrait for a specific photonumber..I liked the idea. Although I'm only small in the frame, I'm there, in the mirror!

The scene in the back is Kefalonia and we're looking too it from a 500m small isthmus on Ithaca, a part of land that connects the northern & southern part of Ithaki, home of Odysseus?!

I've had fun on this place, with the mirror. Actually you see two 'sea's' in one photo. In the mirror the Gulf of Molos, and in the bigger frame the straigth of Ithaca.

I would like to thank all the members who remained to visit my gallery and photo's in the past few (hard)months when my activity was quite low. I've picked up some critiqueing again but also hope to post some more photo's again. (yeah also from the Netherlands ;) )

Excellent from any point of view! On the one hand there is a beautiful landscape in front of us, but the presence of this mirror also enables us to see what there is on the other side. An excellent idea, which more is very well carried out.

I like this composition, it is nice sharp with excellent light, you had a great idea to make somethink like selfportrait with this street mirror.-:)
You framed it good, I like the small detail with the bush (not the president) on the left down.

hey emiel, i know this yellow t-shirt:)))... your natural environment in the kyklades wont be like the one in the ionian islands, dont expect to see that many trees together but you ll still love it there i m sure... i consider this to be your 100th post so CONGRATULATIONS mate!!! i like the shot with the mirror in it (the green stuff on the lower left corner could have gone though!)... i hope to see you around more often... take care...

That is definitively the right shot to celebrate something such as a number 101. Funny and original! The little round convex mirror is certainly well placed in that composition giving a wonderful vies to the distance and at the same time a look to the author of the shot.

Clever idea to treat ourselves a portrait. Did you clean that mirror? It's a clear fisheye shot with nice background view as well. Well exposed image, fresh natural colours and I like it.

Hello Emiel,

I like this well-composed shot. The self-portrait of the photographer is at just the right place in the frame; the colors and definition are excellent in both the ripples in the sea and the reflections in the mirror. I remember once visiting Ithaca, purportedly the home of Oddysseus on a very hot day during the summer of 1993. I was on a ship called the Royal Viking Queen. Enjoy your next visit (July 30-August 2). A subtle aspect that is very good is that the pole supporting the mirror is leaning. Slight breaks in symmetry are always interesting. Both in the Alhambra Mosque in Spain, and a Shinto Temple in Japan I saw examples of perfectly plumb columns, interrupted by one column that was slightly leaning. Both civilizations were capable of making perfectly plumb symmetric columns, but independently they had come to the conclusion that a finishing touch should be imperfect — and homage, "Only God can make perfect!"

I think it is my first visit to your gallery. I see you are a Greek Island fan. I've been to quite a few over the years (mainly pre-TE, but have just returned from Tinos and Andros)When you walk off the ferry you feel all your cares and tensions slip away. I'm sure you feel the same
Congratulations for reaching your 1st century! It just had to be a Greek Island! I like the atmosphere you captured shooting into the light with the way the ripples are shown up on the water on the right. The majority of the OE in the sky is covered by the mirror that you cleverly used for your celebratory portrait. I also like the way the silhouetted islands overlap each other and gradually become darker as they get closer.
I wonder what the next 100 will bring.

Nice self portrait! A bit odd because you can see yourself clearly, but it doesn't look like you're pointing the camera any where near the mirror due to the angle. Beautiful backdrop to this mirror. The colors are beautiful, and I like how the sun glistens off the water. Hope all is well.
