Another version of a view on Myrtos Beach located in the north of Kefalonia which I've uploaded earlier. It's a very clean beach with small white pebbles. The water is crystalclear. This shot is taken from the road to Vassilikiades, which is located well above the beach, so you can see.
It's Kefalonia's best beach, it's even one of the best beaches in Greece! Together with Porto Katsiki on Lefkada, which I've also visited this holiday and also did post shots from here on TE, it has been noted to be in the top 5 best beaches of the world (!) (from some popular American magazine).
The beach is protected against development, the only permitted facility is a single refreshment bar offering drinks, sandwiches and ice creams.
19mm, F14, 1/250, ISO 200, Pattern metering.
Used to polarizer to decrease the highlights too, still a bit big, but it's worth it, isn't it? :)
[PP in CS2] Slightly :
* Shadows opened a bit & highlights decreased
* USM 95%, 0.3px 1 lvl
* Added simple border + name.
* 'Saved for web', to get quality as high as possible, 198kb.
Update on 22-11 :
For those who wonder about the POV, I will reveal it, by showing you this 360 degree panorama I've found on the net. You can see the road where I've also taken this shot from.
Sorry to let you down that I'm not a mountaineer ;)

Woooow, beautiful place.
Very good photo!
Xalkida (11744) 2006-11-01 15:52
Excellent shot my friend. I like how you have captured the sun when it reflected on the sea. Excellent colors too. Well done.

Hello Emiel! Very good work here. I almost always use a circular polarizer for those like to reduce the glare off the water and even out the overall exposure.
You're compostion is really good. I don't know how high up you were, but your angle makes it seem really, really high. It's amazing the land could rise so quickly out of the sea.
Overall everything is very good, the only thing I would suggest would have been to leave a little bit more sky above the mountains in the distance so some of them didn't run into the border. But that does not distract. Well done!

Beautiful view indeed!!
You filled all the picture, how much you had to show about this fantastic beach and its surroundings!
Here I like blue and turquese colours, of course, and also the running water in the middle of the sea.
Well done to describe also the road to reach the beach.
vincz (19113) 2006-11-02 3:44
Beautiful, I wish i could be there, still in the summer. Excellent POV and excellent colours.
mphotographies (1976) 2006-11-02 4:10
The breathless POV, indeed proving how it earned its reputation as ‘one of the best’ beaches. Worth the decreasing the highlights, well processed and nice presentation. Another great job here Emiel!

One of the finest captures of the world famous Myrtos beach, I have ever seen. Although the sun wasn't on your side, the light managment is perfect. Very impressive depth of field, with the shapes of the rocks in the background "closing" perfectly your picture. Congratulations!

Hola Emiel...a breathtaking & lovely view. Very cared for compo. Great work with this difficult light. Stunning result...well done !
ktanska (27328) 2006-11-02 8:14
Height of this cliff would be really hard to comprehend unless there was some ants, hmm people, on the beach. Also the road seems to make really steep curves on the way down.
Backlight reflections are really strong, even polarizer doesn't seem to kill them.
bostankorkulugu (42416) 2006-11-02 9:13
cool reflection and good back light there...if only u could have let us see the upper bit of that hill behind...
this one has reminded me of corellis mandolin again...beautiful novel (terrible movie)...

Emiel, une photo de la mer magnifique. J'aime la belle lumière qui miroite sur le bleu. Le premier plan et la montagne font un beau cadre à ce paysage de toute beauté.
Burberry1 (6041) 2006-11-02 12:41
Simply beautiful and poetic one I would say..
Great light, POV and glamour of this fantastic shot.
sebcz (2345) 2006-11-03 3:33
The sight is really impressive, you managed to deal with the light beautifully. Fantastic details and definition. Well done, my mate.

That is such a beautiful scene you captured Emiel. Your composition is arranged perfectly to enhance the look of the photo. I love the clarity and the beautiful light in this shot. VERY WELL DONE.
ekinokswest (2994) 2006-11-05 10:08
I like the view.
but it looks like it s not easy to get there by car.. or you took the photo from a mountain top that is why it appears like that. there are boat tours for tourists?. you know anything?
Cormac (26565) 2006-11-05 15:15
Fantastic view! The land sweeps around the frame perfectly, from the tree and rocks of the foreground right, to the beach, to the mountainous islands in the background. I like the reflection off the water, which makes the shot unusual and dramatic. Excellent!
pboehringer (770) 2006-11-06 18:52
Amazing that even a circ polarizing filter was not able to cut the reflections down even more. I wonder how it looked without any filter. Did you climb all this up the mountain to get the unique POV or is it part of theat windy street that I can see almost reaching the beach? Wonderful composition with the shrub and tree in the fg.
jjbach (9324) 2006-11-08 17:20
Great shot from this wonderful and famous Ioanian beach. The colours as well as the lighting is perfect. You have done a excellent work, bravo!

Hello Emiel, What a beautiful countryside. Very well done.
Best regards Artur

Lovely composition. Adding the mountains and the sky in the background gives more depth to the pic. Wish the sea was that clear on my side of the world.. unfortunately it's way too polluted. Thanks for your comment on my photo.
capthaddock (28790) 2006-11-20 15:36
Hi Emiel - one of the best photos of this beach that I've seen, the polariser helped alot, I like how the distant promontory frames the horizon, though I wish you aimed 1mm. more to the top to avoid the peak touching the upper border. (or use the full 17mm instead of 19 :-))
Ber (8242) 2006-11-21 12:17
Great shot from this wonderful beach. Very good point of view. Nice composition.
olivierduc (293) 2006-11-28 18:37
Beautiful view Emiel, the kind of light and sea-landscape you can only find in Greece. Too bad the crowd of tourists on the beach takes away some of the wildness of the coast.
peter1892 (1681) 2006-11-28 18:42
Fantastic viewpoint, the colours & contrast that you've got from shooting into the sun is also excellent. Well done.
PRGmetro (134) 2006-11-29 14:02
Hi Emilien, another nice picture from you. Everything is good but having more sky on top would make it even better.
cdmonson (5146) 2006-12-01 22:29
Great shot Emiel. This is a unique and I think well done perspective of the beach--most of the time you don't see shots from this high up. This is a very good composition. The mountain cutting into the water divides the water perfectly, in my opinion. I personally like that the tourists are on the beach. They're arranged rather symmetrically, and they give a great idea of how enormous the mountain and the area are. Well done.
king (4242) 2006-12-16 6:48
Deze opname is net wat mooier dan de foto die je later gepost hebt. Prachtige kleuren en lekker veel diepte. De symmetrie in de 'bebouwing' van het strand doet eigenaardig aan: een vervreemdend element in de grootse natuur eromheen.
ArisT (283) 2006-12-19 7:40
All in all a fantastic picture. Great in many respects: details, sharpness, depth of field, colours, sun reflection. I have to visit again your gallery as from a quick glance you are quite a talented photographer.
lu_muratori (618) 2006-12-23 22:00
Wonderfull view Emiel and the reflections on the water lookjust gourgeous. POV is also great, TFS.
TopGeo (38216) 2007-04-24 13:43
Myrtos beatch in broad daylight is woonderful composition,in perspective. thanks for this photo
Perseus (33) 2007-05-22 7:50
A beautiful photo. You captured many interesting aspects in one picture from the mountains in the distance, the sparkling blue sea and also the inviting sandy beach.I can almost feel the warmth of the sun from you standing there.
Maybe one day I will have an icecream on this beach..
feather (51130) 2007-06-15 11:10
Beautiful shot of Myrtos Beach. By shooting into the direction of the light you have captured all the wonderful reflected light in the sea. You had an excellent POV allowing you to show the steep drop to the beach and the tiny "ants" below. I like the inclusion of the foreground and the tree for depth. I would have liked to see a bit more sky but possibly both fg and sky was not possible.
cozy (998) 2007-06-27 7:06
This is a wonderful POV!! I unfortunately didn't travel on this road... The view from up here is amazing, I wish I had!!
You've used the rule of thirds well with the foreground vegetation, very good, sharp details and beautiful colours on the water!
