Sad Street Dog Photo

Photographer’s Note

As said in the note of the previous pic in the streets of old Thessaloniki the dogs are roaming around. This dog wasn’t frolicking around but lying in the sun…. a bit sleepy, a bit lovely and a bit sad. It wasn’t clear if he belonged to one of the tenants in the building. In any case the drainpipe of the airco was inserted in an old water bottle to prevent him having to lie in a puddle.
Pic. 60 mm. PS-E3 tech: cropped, copied the sig.but to a new layer, desaturated the whole pic, darkened the highlights in the wall, blurred selected parts, sharpened and applied the dodge and sharpen tools to the eyes and nose, added a frame layer and saved for the web.

The sad sface of the dog and the colour cigar makes me think about an anti-smoke campaingn. The water pot brings a reality, casual ideat tothe picture. What I didn't like mucha is that the dog's face and body still bluered . I would try to sharp it even more.

But I like it very much.

hi bert!
rich, emotive composition. here and there details which give us the idea of abandonment. the colorful cigarette, the decaied wall, the bottle of water on the floor, le regard du chien.
the frame you chose is very nice. it matches the image absolutely. b&w - and the many tones of grey were the perfect choice.
very beautiful. great sensibility.

And, in my opinion, you have very correctly made having chosen for this photo B&W. At a dog almost human eyes. It is a magnificent photo!

Stub of a cigarette in natural colors... Very much-very much well:)

I can see that this dog touched in a way. The photo is taken with a lot of sensability. You have been able to convey this feeling to us. The sad eyes of teh dog, the way it looks at you and the surrounding which it lies in. It all gives me the feeling of an abandoned dog. We don't have this in Seden, and i find it so sad. But that is life i guess. Very well captured Bert.

Wat ziet er dit een braaf beest uit Bert, mooi in Z/W gebracht, de foto is goed scherp en de tekst geeft alles netjes weer. Misschien het kleinstukje wit boven wegsnijden maar dan stond de fles er niet volledig op nietwaar. Bedankt!

I like the expression you caught on the dog! He looks really sad and sadly it´s a problem that all countries have! A posted also a picture of abandoned dog, one that i was taking care until someone took it away! I also like the way you framed it, lovely!

Such an expression on this dog's face. You seem to have disturbed him from his rest. He looks so sleepy. And the way he's curled up and looks somewhat thin gives him a sad look, also. That was nice of whoever put the water into the bottle so he can have a dry place. Also keeping color to the cigarette gives the dog an added sense of sadness as it highlights the environment he lives in sometimes surrounded by the scraps of people. Very nice job photographing this dog and good job in post-processing to get this result.

Hoi Bert, mooi, droevig moment gekozen! Ik vind de datils in de foto, in combinatie met je notes, erg goed. Mooi in zwart/wit. Goeie nabewerking.

Great picture, Bert. B&W enphatizes the "human" glance of this sleepy and sad dog, but I think it was a good idea to keep color just on the sigarette-end.
