Chora of Skyros

Displayed here is the town of Chora, also know as Skyros. Skyros suffered piracy and invasions during its history and this made the location on the mountain imperative, providing shelter and invisibility from the ones coming to the island from the east coast.
Chora is the biggest and only town on this enticing island. The rest of the villages are hamlets. It’s the administrative centre of the island and most shops, restaurants etc are here.

All though Skyros is a part of the Sporades islands its architecture and urban structure looks Cycladic and wandering the town’s narrow streets there’s even a hint of North African kasbah. This is however only superficially so, the architectural detailing and the plan and interior of the houses are however unique to Skyros. In the following post I will provide some more info about it.

On the top of the mountain is the old Venetian kastro and some 20 m below it theAgios Georgios Skyrianos monastery, part of the diocese of Karystia & Skyros

The pic was taken in the early evening from a road under construction.

PCS2 tech - the usual: cropped, altered the contrast, saturation, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, USM-ed, added a frame and saved for the web.

Hi Bert

Classic view of Chora of Skyros. Very nice POV, great original colors and great lighting. A very nice job!

Hello Bert,

This picture is very good because the light available allowed you to create a good composition with sharp colours. The pOv is very good and the setting of this town is just incredible.

Cheers,

Roberto

Hi Bert
Impressive shot with a nice balance of elements. The predominantly brown landscape blends well with the white buildings on the hillside. A good light enables us to see many details and the blue sky adds great impact. A beautiful summers view.

Hej Bert,
Zeer geslaagde foto.

groeten,
John.

WOW ! What a place. This reminds me of The Guns of Navaronne. Excellent colours and contrast.

Bonsoir Bert

Gorgeous photo, Bert - the colors really pop in this one, the view is well composed with the road leading into the scene, and the way in which the white houses are spread along the hillside makes for a beautiful graphical impact. Well done balancing the exposure, not blowing any of the whites in the bright sun.

groetjes
Henk

Hi Bert, I know you didn't create th village like that, folding itslef higher and higher around the mountain top, but you did see the photographic possibility with the white house in the burned gras with some green mingling around it, and the winding road as a pathway to enter the village. Very nice Bert, a real nice high city

Hi Bert,
Well composed and a very crisp clear shot. I like the way the little road takes the eye on the right. The low angle POV gives us an inspiring view of the hillside with the whitewashed houses. The hues all contrast nicely here, and the lighting is superb. Well captured.
John

Hi Bert - an excellent contribution to the scant Skyros gallery, I like the way the white houses hug the mountain

The place, in that light, is really beautiful and graphic and you captured that perfectly. Impressive.

Hello Bert!
Such a lovelu white village on the rock!
The houses are just like tools!
They are so sweet!
Perfect done!
Best regards!

Splendid shot !
Clear all over, very sunny and in fantastic colours, veeeery nice picture !

Hi Bert
Very pretty postcard shot. The light is just right, bringing out the red of the earth and not overexposing the white of the buildings. The sky is such a deep blue which sets the scene nicely and the road helps give depth.
Regards
Nikki

Salut Bert
Joli travail
@+ Toni

Nice. Some clouds would have been nice , but I suppose you could not wait for that :-)
