If you are on Sifnos, don't miss Kastro!
Walking there you make a journey in time in a kind of wonderland.
"This lovely walled cliff-top village is situated at 5 kilometres east of Apollonia, the actualy capital of the island.
It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the sea and is inhabited since the prehistoric period.
Kastro has been built in the ruins of the ancient capital of Sifnos and is the only village of the island with a strong medieval character.
A big part of its boundary walls survive as well as the features of a Venetian fortress.
Narrow little streets, loggias, beautiful two-storey houses, old mansions and 16th and 17th century churches with ornamental floors.
Venetians coats of arms and ancient wall-fragments can still be seen on most of the houses of the village.
Remains of the ancient acropolis and a small archaeological museum can be visited."

Very interesting composition with well managed crop and beautiful textures. The framing is well seen and I really like the minimalist treatment of the picture. Very interesting note too ! Thanks for sharing !

Reading the note and looking at the photo it's clear how they seem to match. Layers and layers of history that the city is is represented in the layers around this window, wood, bare stone and stuccoed stone. It's a good link between the two. I wonder if a frontal point of view might have worked better, though. I do like the large amount of overexposed stucco surface. It lets it sink naturally into a heavy frame. And as I said it's a good analogy to the layers of history that is the town.
I have to edit this. Now on my less contrasty monitor I see the exposure is just fine on the white wall and still works very well as a large frame.
