Photographer’s Note

Greek islands

Wild reefs sweeped by the wind
Are faithful company to long walks
Towards the setting of the sun.

Seagull’s screaming,
Aromatics herbs and saltiness
Are wind’s presents
Exchanged sometimes with a cold shiver.

But the slanting rays of the sun
Can still warm and cuddle the hearth.

For Tomorrow too.

Monastery Panagia Hozoviotissa
The most famous church on Amorgos island is the well-known 11th century Hozoviotissa Monastery overlooking the north east coast of the island from about 200mt above the sea level.

Built on towering orange cliff, it’s a marvel with vast gleaming white walls, still hosting three friendly monks.

When I reached the place it was early morning. Nobody around. I was breathing the pure marine air when I noticed a falcon flying high over the cliffs. Suddenly it plunged down towards me: I was fascinated and didn’t realize I was its aim! Only few meters before reaching me he turned away.
When I reached the monastery Pope Teophilos, 75 years old who live here since 54years, welcomed me with a lemon liqueur and a greek coffee. As we were chatting on the dazzling white terrace of the monastery overlooking the cliffs and the sea below, he said he saw the falcon jumped down towards me. He said that the falcon had its nest up over the cliffs.
I still remember the great peace of the place and the fragrance of thyme led by the wind.
