I intended to upload a greek windmill picture, but decided to show a tranquil boat picture instead, life is hectic and stressful for me this weekend, the serenity of this one is more comforting than war. Taken mid morning, it was raining in the mountains between Gythio and Monemvassia, but warm sunshine on the coast. Near the southernmost tip of the Balkan peninsula.
Gythio is protected by spurs of the mighty Taygetos mountain range. Its highest "Profitis Ilias", with 2.407 m the highest mountain on the whole Peloponese, makes a marvellous background scene. From November to May, the snow-white peaks are a magnificent sight behind the deep blue sea.

I like the dark, but shimmering water here backed by the white of the buildings and green mountains. Another nice post. Sorry about your weekend.

Another great one from you. The reflection off the water is just right - it has an impressionist type of look. The reflection also converges to the right margin, making a beautiful triangle. The other thing I really like about this is the way the colour of the water rises from almost black up to light blue gradually. Superb work!

A traquil shot indeed and very pleasing. The portrait format is ideal for displaying the great water tones and reflections and dividing nicely the foreground action from the interesting background. The clouds of course are superb. There are very few photographers on TE that can match you for quality of photo and the great variety of countries and regions you depict. In this sense you epitomize the TE vision. I hope your weekend turns out less stressful. I am currently relaxing on my ocean deck in the Gulf Islands...

Excellent shot Tan from beautiful Gythio. I 've been there in 2000, but unfortunately without my camera :o(
Beautiful relaxing composition with nice colours and great reflections. I love the point of view!

What a lovely view of this village. The reflections are great and you've created a good composition with the boat in front. Very well done!

Nice perspective for that beautiful landscape.
I specially like the reflection in the water.
The different tons of green and blue colors
are beautiful too. Thx

Hi Tan, what an outstanding shot. The composition blows me away. The focus and DOF are not easy at all and you pulled it off very successfully. But I do like Jean-Yves's workshop too. Nice shot Tan!

A well composed way to enter into the photo and a wonderful reflected perspective, I applied minor changes see WS.
Have a nice week end,

Superb reflections & well composed. Perhaps I'd increase contrast slightly, in the upper 1/2 of the image. The diagonal & symmetry of the 2 boats is marvellous. Good work!
Jeppe (18654) 2005-08-14 4:31
Yes - the colours of the boats say Greece - a fine angle and with great lines of reflections. A great composition with the boats in front - Thanks Tan.

AmiBe (6042) 2005-08-14 18:20
nice view, the houses and their reflections are an excellent background.
A peaceful place, after the war, it's welcome.
sleon (9402) 2005-08-15 3:39
Excellent composition with the boat in the foreground and beautiful, shimmering reflections. Great sky too, and the colour complements the boat well. The scene has a lovely traquil feel. The WS is an improvement too.
sayzey (2358) 2005-08-15 8:27
Calm and tranquil indeed. its great how a peaceful photo can alter your state of mind. Im just trying to work out whether i would like the shot better if the boat on the right was totally cropped out. I think not because the whole right hand side of th ephoto woudl be gone, I think it woudl look good if the half boat was cloned out though, its a bit distracting.
Well done : )

rbcy1974 (20758) 2005-08-15 17:27
I think that the diagonal reflection is great as well as the position of the boat.
So when is the takeoff for your trip?
bazal (7900) 2005-08-16 5:47
Hi Tan. I'm glad to discover your contribution dealing with this beautiful harbour of Gythio. Colors, contrast and light are, as most often in your album, superb and the composition allows to have a very interesting perspective on the scene. thanksfor sharing !
quantabeh (5205) 2005-08-16 19:22
not original in compo, but certainly beautiful and superb in everything else. excellent exposure as always. YOu really need to reveal some of your secrets, at some point or another :) I am still in awe over some of your apparently mid day photos.

Great scenery Tan!
Super foreground with two boats, beautiful reflections in the water, very good light. Thanks for posting and thanks for the note
jpages (1670) 2005-10-08 15:25
very good composition, the village with the hill, creating a beautiful reflection creating a triangular figure, and the boats, filling the dark blue water zone with elements that adds light to the image. I would like to see the scene with the right hand side boat without being cut.
I hope to see new posts from you soon.
My best regards from Barcelona, and have a nice WE.
rabani (9645) 2005-10-24 21:02
Well framed and polarized. Detailed and saturated, giving a profound impression of this Grecian harbour. And Tan, getting that one boat bottom center, give us the lead to study this waterfront.
zeca (19762) 2006-08-18 1:40

strong colours and a well balanced composition make this a stunning image. The detail is lovely. Definitely a shot to grace the centre spread of a magazine.
