Broken and abandoned in a corner of the enclosed back wall of a little house, set in the castle walls high up in the little town of Pyrgos on Santorini, Greece.

Good Morning Brian,
A simple subject but one which commands attention by its strong composition and fine, textural details.
I recently went to a lecture by a Sheffield University historian which was just wonderful, about excavating whole storage sites in Greece. If only ...!
Have a great day,

The warm ambient light and the broken vase have combined to create an unusual but very nice composition. You have captured this with good detail and great warm looking colours. The textures are well rendered and the framing is lovely. Well done as always.

excellently spotted and executed scene from Pyrgos(I don´t know how You,but for me definitely the most charming village on Santorini).
It´s also lovely change from typical on Santorini white/blue color scheme. It looks so warm and pleasant.

Hey there B,
"Broken Pot,"...sounds like something coming out of Colorado these days...those munchie lovin' hippies have finally broken the government down to let 'em smoke away! Oh, wrong kind of pot...sorry, my bad. :)
What do you want to bet that 99.9 percent of people that have walked past have seen it as nothing more than a piece to throw away...and yet you've turned into a work of art, terrific realization! Whether it be natural or some of your handy dandy PP work, the soft play of light is something else here, the subtle nuances are a thing of beauty. And then of course there are the textures, superbly grainy and perfectly matched with the rustic colors. A complete "180" from the traditional blues and whites we associate with Greece, great observation my rain soaked friend...something unassuming and just as charming as the rest of the village. Enjoy your Friday.
Cheers from overseas,
The Midwest, South and East Coast have been getting slammed here, it must keep making it's way over to your side when it's finished. Old Man Winter is a beast this year...and yet the Southwest is still dry as a bone!?

Excellent detail photo in perfect light, very good clarity, nicely balanced colors. The well-chosen tight crop eliminates all unwanted distractions. Well done.

Une bonne composition et un excellent travail de posttraitement dans cette très belle photo.
Kamilutka (5725) 2014-02-07 2:08
this photo would be an excellent material for a very lovely postcard from Greece.
You were very lucky to find this broken vase placed in these warm and pretty colors. The walls match the item in color and in structure and the whole mood of the picture is captivating. One can almost feel the glory of the past there.
Nicely composed and with properly given sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

A fine study of just a few elements, a real "still life". The colours are excellent and in a very good harmony. A very simple but very attractive picture.

This is all about that beautiful light and the yellow and rust colours shown in a very fine, simple composition.
Kind Regards, Ann

It's not easy to put these things in value, but here is highly successful. Great choice the vertical format and splendid light. I like a lot!
Have a nice Week-end.

Hello Brian - We don't see many 'still-life's' on TE and I think it is a pity. This one is beautiful and shows how a simple subject can be exploited photographically. The warm tones, light and textures are all expertly captured. As always you present a well composed and lovely shot which demonstrates your eagle eye! Have a good weekend. Rosemary
