The hill, between the 2nd and 3rd column from the left to the right on the backdrop,is Lycabetus.
You can see here an other POV with Acropolis on the backdrop.
Temple of Olympian Zeus, Athens
The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Greek: Ναός τοῦ Ὀλυμπίου Διός),also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a colossal ruined temple in the centre of the Greek capital Athens that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman periods it was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world.
The temple's glory was short-lived, as it fell into disuse after being pillaged in a barbarian invasion in the 3rd century AD. It was probably never repaired and was reduced to ruins thereafter. In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, the temple was extensively quarried for building materials to supply building projects elsewhere in the city. Despite this, substantial remains remain visible today and it continues to be a major tourist attraction.

Stunning contrast.very good ight handeling. The pillars are looking awsome with a vivid blue background.Very nicely presented.
UlfE (14445) 2013-10-16 10:25
A classic view of the Temple of Olympian Zeus taken in the very best lighting and a perfect sky. A few clouds in an otherwise blue sky is usually more attractive than an entirely blue sky. Your positioning of the temple a little bit to the right is very good. TFS and have a nice evening!
Romano46 (14452) 2013-10-16 10:37
una bella foto, semplice, elegante e molto ben composta.
Colori molto netti e ben dosati e nitidezza di alto livello.
Uno scatto molto ben riuscito.
Ciao e buona serata

Impressive ruins presented from a well selected POV. The intensive colors of the sky and foreground made the scene attractive and perfectly supported the main subject. Well done!

Bonsoir, cher ami Danos,
Je reste toujours émerveillé devant les restes de ce Temple.
Pouvoir contempler aujourd'hui une architecture qui a été pensé de six siècles avant JC est remarquable.
Un vrai régal. Un grand merci.
jacquest (17527) 2013-10-16 11:44
A remarquable image of the ruins of this temple with a light that gives vivid colors and sharpness of the details. I like the fact that you off-centered the columns.
Miguel82 (16568) 2013-10-16 12:14
Dear Danos, hope that you're well, your today's post shows the famous and popular temple of Zeus in Athens, a monument of the past, very impressive columns from that pov, high definition, attractive colors
All the best, take care, good evening
mcmtanyel (7297) 2013-10-16 13:00
An excellent rendering of an elegant structure attesting to the grandeur of the days gone by. Thanks to records like this, those days may be gone but not forgotten.
mesutilgim (75516) 2013-10-16 13:03
Hello dear Danos,
I've visited this famous temple of the antiquity in Athens several times and captured it also often but you have gotten here a perfect light and the deep blue sky creates a perfect background.
TFS and best regards
krzychu30 (14342) 2013-10-16 13:12
beautiful capture of ancient heritage in Athens!
The ruins of the Temple against so lovely blue sky present itself really delightful. And thehill between the columns-detail,which makes the shot even more interesting.
I regret not having the chance to see Athens from one of the surrounding hills-views must be breathtaking(I landed in Athens at night,so had the chance to see the city from above and I tell you Danos it was one of the most exciting views I´ve ever seen.Really Athens at night from above is something unique and beautiful)
Wish You all the best
PaulVDV (18682) 2013-10-16 13:32
I think I do know this temple. There's a fallen and broken in pieces column nearby but out of sight here.
Well chosen POV to include the Lykavittós Hill between the columns.
A good light and beautiful strong colours and contrasts.
Best regards, Paul
Fis2 (78748) 2013-10-16 13:34

saxo042 (35146) 2013-10-16 15:45
Very impressive ruins of these very old buildings. What remain today are these beautiful pillars, perfectly captured against the deep blue sky. A very well composed picture!
kato (10547) 2013-10-16 16:24
You're capturing well this ancient architecture by a good composition and very excellent color tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the temple of Olympian Zeus with strong pillars and base. The whole is balanced well by a good arrangement and bright/beautiful color combination. It's so effective for a wide‐angle lens in this case.
clic (13006) 2013-10-16 16:38
Geia sou Danos
Of course, the greek sky put on its nicest getup to suit the majesty of those relics of Antiquity built in homage to the king of the Olympian gods.
Fortunately, Zeus did not throw thunderbolts the day you took this picture captured with inspiring quality; we have perfect lighting for subtle details on stone work.
nikkitta (10418) 2013-10-16 16:40
Imposing temple (what remains of it), captured from a good POV and with good contrast with a very beautiful sky
And... what is great is the inclusion of the hill between the columns
Greetings, well done
pierrefonds (52548) 2013-10-16 17:28
The distance between the temple and the trees is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the temple. It is clear and sharp. The good luminosity is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.
jcpix (8296) 2013-10-16 20:01
I can only imagine how imposing this must have been back in its time! I love that the columns are the part which has stood the test of time, they feel to represent the strength and ingenuity of those who built this many, many years before today's advances of architecture. A true testament to their genius that this is still replicated and used in this day and age.
An image full of history, detail, focus and strong color. Very well taken and presented, a splendid result indeed. Have a great day ahead.
macjake (48279) 2013-10-16 20:51
looking at this scene, I can't help but wonder how many similar sites are in Greece and Athens...maybe hundreds?
you could never run out of them :)
you picked an excellent day to capture this one, the blue sky with hint of clouds really were the optimal time to take this.
strong and elegant composition at the same time.
enjoy your day

Hello Danos - A classic, well managed shot of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Good detail in the architecture and presented against a deep blue sky. One gets a good feel for the magnificence of the structure from your composition. Warm regards rosemary

ikeharel (46914) 2013-10-17 0:40
A most impressive shot over those big pillars, holding the beams above.
Great daylight upon, and fine outlines of the preserved ruins.
There was nobody around to give scale, except for the projector on ground - yet managed beautifully showing its grandeur and presence.
Kugart (1776) 2013-10-17 0:44
A vey nice shot of these spectacular columns of the temple of Zeus.good POV against s the green trees in the background and the beautiful blue Athens sky. A nice record of Greek history. Thanks

Imposing temple what remains of it, captured from a good POV and with good contrast with a very beautiful sky
Splendid picture with a very well quality.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
On these way create you a lot depth and perspective.
Excellent captured, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Noel_Byrne (16143) 2013-10-17 4:40
What a brilliant way to present these ancient ruins, such fine detail in the columns presented against that stunning blue sky. The level of detail retained in the stonework here defies the thought of the age of this place, and even the name alone of the temple is enough to make any historian smile. Wonderful scene, thank you.
All the best
NorthernLight (1205) 2013-10-17 4:59
an antique monument that makes us pondering. Everything is impermanent. Also great empires pass away in the course of time.
Very nicely captured with great colors!
All the best and have a nice day

ChrisJ (92090) 2013-10-17 21:08
I know this spot. I was hoping to go in around sunset and frame the Acropolis through the columns but the gates were closed. I got a reasonable telephoto shot though and may post it later. Love the blue and white colors here. Mine were golden columns in the late afternoon light so it's nice to see the different lighting conditions. Tfs!
gervaso (9247) 2013-10-18 4:25
Wonderful temple, captured with excellent quality: colors, sharpness, contrasts, everything is perfect! The workshop is also beautiful, but this clean view of the temple is even better! Wonderful composition! Well done!

I had the pleasure to be on top of the Lycabetus but with a simple analog camera so the photos are quite bad. Very attractive presentation here with lovely sky with a subtle touch of the white clouds in the background. Great light, excellent presentation,

Fine shot of the superb structure taken from this viewpoint well exploited by great colour contrasts.
Wonderful strong shadows, lighting, immense textures and great dof making this a really pleasing even without people. How wonderful to walk there! - yes there are plenty of people walking there, where the ancient Greeks once walked. It's wonderful historic sight so well captured and tfs, Congrats

the well polarized blue sky is an efficient backdrop, and makes these beautiful columns stand out elegantly over it, in a good 3D sensation.
I like the harmony of the elements in the composition, and the great light and the quality of colours as well.
It's a fantastic work, my friend.

Belles couleurs, Toujours émerveillé devant l'age des ces restes. Il faudrait relire Platon pour s'inspirer de la démocratie. Le fait qu'il n'y ait pas de touristes devant donne un côte encore plus majestueux.
