Waiting the coming ferry., a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

Waiting the coming ferry to departure from the island of Paros,i took a lot of shots with the most important to be this one, with the boat to passing by in front of the landing point,with the opposite part of the land to floodlight with the warm afternoon light.

The main port of Paroikia is for many, the first and only place they see in Paros. With as many as five ferries unloading in the space of half an hour your first impression can be that you want to get right back on the boat you just got off. But if you wait for the crowds to clear, you find that Parakia is not a bad place to base yourself.
The center of town is the windmill which used to serve as the tourist information center, but now serves only as a windmill. What the windmill does exactly, I am not sure, but the tourist police have moved across the street and if you want information on ferry boats there are at least half a dozen ticket agencies within fifty meters. Each agency posts the weekly schedules on boards in front and by looking at your options you realize that you can get just about anywhere from Paros. Don't book your ferry until you have gone by all the agencies and seen what is available in case some agents are just representing a particular ferry company and does not list the other boats.

The light in this image is just wonderful. The boat is well placed and the distance in the water gives deepness. I like the slope of the hill running from left to right with all thoses houses well perched. The sharpness is remarquable.

Hello Danos,

You're capturing well this landscape by a good composition, paroramic view and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see many houses with white wall standing on the hill and surrounding greenery. It's impressive to see the spectacle in which a ferry leaves a harbor, too. The whole is harmonized and balanced well by some objects(pier, sea and hill).

The afternoon light and shades made a nice view on the bay with the boat passing, Danos.

πολύ όμορφο κάδρο που, ξεκινώντας από τον προβλήτα δομεί μια εξαιρετική αίσθηση βάθους και παρουσιάζει με εντυπωσιακή διαύγεια το τοπίο δίπλα στη θάλασσα. Αποτύπωσες με μεγάλη ακρίβεια την ομορφιά και ζεστασιά του απογευματινού φωτός που δίνει χάρη σε ό,τι αγγίζει. Μου αρέσουν πάρα πολύ τα χρώματα και η ήρεμη ατόσφαιρα καθώς και ο τρόπος που παίζει το φως πάνω σε όλες τις επιφάνειες στην απέναντι πλαγιά. Μπράβο και ευχαριστώ!

the light of the late afternoon bathes the hillside and makes to shine the white architecture of the houses, creating a few very nice shades.
The warm colors increase the quality of the image, and the boat adds a good dynamism to this nice scene, perfectly caught by means of a panoramic framing.

Όταν απολαμβάνεις τέτοια θέα πως γυρνάς πίσω? Η κυκλαδίτικη αρχιτεκτονική μου αρέσει πολύ γιατί είναι απλή και ξεκάθαρη. Επίσης η αντανάκλαση στο άσπρο χρώμα των σπιτιών θυμίζει Ελλάδα.

I like the wide angled, panoramic crop here. Good sharpness and the tour boat leaving the pier animates the shot. Superb sharpness & nice repetition of the hillside houses right across the screen up to the top right. The sidelight from the left adds relief, shape, & form to all subjects. Tfs!

Super shot of a lovely looking seaside village in rich colors. Hello Danos,

My daughter is in Greece, at the moment. She is holidaying on Santorini.
Your panoramic shot is well composed with the hilside creating an upper triangle from the sky, and the sea, with its amazing colour, forming a horizontal layer in the f/g. The dof details the movement of the ferry and, also, the characteristic style of the houses.
The colours, as always say so much about the nature of Greece.
