Elounda, a photo from Lasithi, Crete

Photographer's Note

Located on the beautiful coast along the Mirabello Gulf, Elounda is a small fishing village which kept its authenticity, as well as a charming seaside resort with its jagged coastline, its clear water and its magnificent serene scenery. The surrounding mountains, the little white church dedicated to St Nicholas, the colourful boats and the peaceful quays give it a picturesque appearance and make it a very pleasant place to stroll along.

Situé sur la très belle côte longeant le golfe de Mirabello, Elounda est un petit village de pêcheurs qui a su préserver son authenticité, en même temps qu’une charmante station balnéaire avec ses côtes dentelées, sa mer limpide et son paysage serein de toute beauté. Enserré par les montagnes, il a gardé un côté pittoresque avec sa petite église blanche dédiée à St Nicolas, ses bateaux colorés et ses quais tranquilles qui en font un lieu très agréable où il fait bon flâner.

Sympathique passage , avec un cliché lumineux et coloré , qui donne envie de repartir en vacances ;)
Le point de vue est parfaitement choisi pour composer et cadre au mieux cette image riche en détails .
Une destination à retenir aussi .

Bonjour Christian,

Although I have never been to this end of Crete, you have captured the typical vibrancy of the Greek harbours. Your pov uses the angled line of the boats to great advantage, guiding the viewers into the wonderfully detailed shot. I particularly like how the ropes anchor into the corners and the twinkling sun reflects on the underside of the boats.

You took these lovely picture on a very quiet moment, almost no wind this gives nice reflections.
Lovely view about these small fishing port.
Also nice dept and perspective image.
Composition and presentation are nice for look at.

Hello Christian.
I always like this kind of nautical photo, with the boats in a line, reflections of the water on their hulls, and a pleasant background basking in the Spring or Summer sunlight. You have achieved a very good sharpness in this one, and shown restraint in the saturation and contrast. I visited Iraklion about 30 years ago, but I can hardly remember it. Your photo makes me wish to travel to that part of the world again.

Fantastic repetition of the colourful boats, nicely arranged in a diagonal line to add dynamism. Good sharpness, saturation & reflections. Nice warm cold colour contrasts between the red, orange & blue. Tfs!

Ta photo me rappelle de bons souvenirs, car nous étions à Elounda en octobre 2003 (pict 72). Que le temps passe vite ! J'ai l'impression que c'était hier !
J'aime beaucoup cet enchevêtrement de bâteaux sur le fond de collines arides si typiques !
Beaucoup d'immeubles modernes, mais les deux églises traditionnelles ajoutent du caractère à l'endroit.

This is beautiful with boats lining up this marina. The reflection on the boats' surface creates dynamic in this sharp and well composed image. The spotless blue sky is amazing complementing well in this superb shot.

Hallo Christian,
Prachtige en kleurrijke foto van dit haventje op Kreta.
Het lijkt alsof de touwen waarmee de bootjes vastgeankerd zijn, alle binnen ons handbereik liggen.
De rij volgestouwde boten leidt ons mooi naar de kade en zo verder naar de witte kerktoren en de rode koepel
van een tweede kerk. Mooie typisch Griekse architectuur. Hopelijk is het leven voor de Kretenzers momenteel wat draaglijk.
De schaarsbegroeide ruwe bergen komen imposant over en vormen een uitstekende achtergrond.
Heel goede scherpte en prachtig licht.

this is a lovely, vivid and joyful picture. The perspective created by the ropes and the boats is very attractive. Clarity is superb in the whole view. Innumerable details can be clearly distinguished in the powerful and irresistible light. I love the way the light plays on all the textures in the frame conquering them and then bouncing back reflected in this delightful atmoesphere. Well done and thank you!

I have to say that fishing boats in Greece are immortal subject, but nevertheless I love them very much. These once above are really well captured at nice angle. I like the building on the shore and hills as a background. Good DOF and perfect clarity as well as beautiful colors are decidedly strenghts of your picture.
