A Greek traditional Tavern in the island "Folegandros".

GRE:Η Φολέγανδρος ανήκει στις νοτιοδυτικές Κυκλάδες. Έχει μέγιστο ύψος 455 μέτρα, έκταση 32 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα και αριθμεί γύρω στους 650 κατοίκους. Απέχει από τον Πειραιά 104 ναυτικά μίλια.Μετά την άφιξη στο λιμάνι του Καραβοστάση η Φολέγανδρος θα αρχίσει να ξεδιπλώνει τις ομορφιές της σιγά-σιγά. Δεν έχετε παρά να περιπλανηθείτε στα πλακόστρωτα της Χώρας και στα στενά του Κάστρου, να ανεβείτε στο βράχο της Παναγίας με την πανοραμική θέα στο Αιγαίο, να κολυμπήσετε στις ερημικές ή στις πολυσύχναστες παραλίες της, να εξερευνήσετε τη φύση μέσα από τα μονοπάτια που διατρέχουν κάθε γωνιά του νησιού. Αξίζει να γευτείτε το σπιτικό, παραδοσιακό φαγητό στη Χώρα, στον Καραβοστάση, στην Αγκάλη ή στην Άνω Μεριά, και να διασκεδάσετε τις νύχτες με ρακόμελα στις πλατείες της Χώρας.

ENG:Folegandros belongs to the south-western Cyclades. It has a maximum altitude of 455 metres, an area of 32 square kilometres and around 650 inhabitants. It is 104 nautical miles away from Piraeus port.Upon arrival at Karavostassis port, Folegandros will start to unfold its beauties one by one. You can wonder around the narrow paved streets of Hora and the Kastro, climb the Panagia rock with its panoramic view of the Aegean, swim in the deserted or popular beaches, or explore nature along the footpaths that criss-cross every corner of the island. Homemade traditional food can be savoured in Hora, Karavostassis, Aggali or Ano Meria, while long nights drinking rakomelo await you in the squares of Hora.

Με σουρωτό και κρεμμύδια φτιάχνεται η φολεγανδρίτικη τυρόπιτα καλασούνα.Ένα άλλο φολεγανδρίτικο τυρί είναι το σκληρό –οι Φολεγανδρίτες το λένε απλώς «τυρί»– για μεζέ ή τριμμένο στα μακαρόνια.Δοκιμάστε ακόμη τα ματσάτα (παραδοσιακά χειροποίητα μακαρόνια που σερβίρονται με κοκκινιστό κόκορα ή κουνέλι), κάππαρη μαγειρευτή, ρεβίθια φούρνου, καραβόλους (σαλιγκάρια γιαχνί), καρπουζένια (γλυκιά πίτα με καρπούζι, μέλι και σουσάμι), παστέλι από το παραδοσιακό εργαστήρι της Άνω Μεριάς και φολεγανδρίτικο μέλι.Σε πολλά εστιατόρια θα βρείτε και άλλα τοπικά προϊόντα: ντόπια χοιρινά και κατσίκια, ξερικές ντοματούλες και αγγουράκια.

ENG:There are numerous options: from fresh fish at the taverns in Karavostassis and Aggali, to international cuisine in the restaurants in Hora.Folegandros offers many excellent local flavours in the taverns in Hora and Ano Meria.Souroto, a fresh, soft white cheese usually served with tomato salad is one of the most famous products of Folegandros. The typical Folegandros cheese pie called kalasouna is made with souroto and onions. Folegandros also produces another type of hard cheese – the locals just call it tyri, meaning… cheese which is eaten as a snack or grated on top of pasta dishes.You can also try matsata (traditional homemade spaghetti served with chicken or rabbit in red sauce), cooked capers (kappari magirefti), oven-cooked chickpeas (revithia fournou), karavolous (snails), karpouzenia (sweet pie with watermelon, honey and sesame), pasteli (sesame sweet) made by the traditional workshop in Ano Meria, and Folegandos honey.You will also find other local produce in many restaurants: local pork and kid meat, local tomatoes and cucumbers (cultivated with a minimum of water).

η πιάτσα είναι όνομα και πράγμα απ΄ ότι βλέπω στο νησί της Φολέγανδρου.Ένα νησί που κάποτε θα ήθελα να επισκευθώ γιατί φαντάζομαι θα είναι ακόμα παρθένο και εξαιρετικής ομορφιάς.
Όμορφη η τοποθεσία της ταβέρνας με τα χαρακτηριστικά δένδρα να δημιουργούν ένα ανυπέρβλητο μέρος για να φάει κανείς.

Hello Chris,

You have positioned yourself well for this shot, using the curved edging to confine the viewr to the details of the cafe. The trees make a fine canopy of protection from the strong sunlight and produce an interesting dappling on the back wall.
With detective-like scrutiny, it is possible to find the human interest, sheltering in the corner.

Hello Chris,

A very nice view of this tavern in quite a wonderful; seeting under the trees. You have controlled the ligh quite effectively on those white surfaces. The overall colors are very well rendered and the sharpness is excellent. I see a little tilt to the right, but that is minor.

I haven't been to Folegandros since 1982, when there was only one ferry a week to the island, and it was almost completely undeveloped. I'm glad to see from your image that at least some of the traditional atmosphere seems to have been retained. Those chairs and trees are screaming Greece at me! I'm sure I sat there 30 years ago. But we didn't get (or could afford)any "international cuisine". How times have changed...

The Cyclades are wonderful islands in Greece. But most of these islands have very few trees. So this square looks to me like a small oasis. I'd like to enjoy a Greek meal under the shade of these trees.
The light blue tables and chairs show the charm of a typical Greek tavern. The place really looks inviting.
