Photographer's Note
Just came back from a 7 days trip to the magnificent region of Mani. What an unbelievable place!!! Rough, wild landscapes, dozens of picturesque villages, hidden Byzantine "treasures", amazing traditional architecture, incredible towerhouses! This small, "insignificant" country, can still surprise me, after 5 1/2 years "on the road".
But, before the "serie" from Mani...
We are entering the "Great" week, the "Holy" week before the Orthodox Easter (although, I think, that this year, it coincides with the Catholic Easter- please correct me, if i am wrong), so i decided to upload a photo from a holy place, Meteora.
Here, you can see 2 of the 6 still "active" monasteries (once upon a time they were 24) in Meteora, Anapafsas Monastery (or Aghios Nikolaos Monastery,to the left) and Roussanou Monastery (or Aghia Varvara Monastery, to the right).

Hello Hercules,
This is a magnificent vertical shot, so well suited for this amazing place! It emphasises the height of the rock towers and how the monasteries are perched on them.
Excellent composition and framing, perfect colours.
Thanks for sharing and good to see you back.

Hola Hercules!
Saludos...

Haven't been there but Meteora seems to be a very picturesque place with its interesting rock formations and unreachable monasteries. I guess, priests used to isolate themselves from the world. Maybe still they do so. Very good vantage point. Best regards Giritli.

Hi Hercules
Beautiful detail in the rocks. We can see a pattern of lines in them. The monasteries always amaze me as they sit so well balanced among the rocks. The engineering back then was quite a feat. Is that some sort of cable hanging from the walls?

Hello Hercules,
Yes, both in 2010 and in 2011 the Orthodox Easter falls on the same day as the Roman Catholic Easter.
I've visited Meteora a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. The monasteries built on the rocks are truly a wonderful world.
On this image I like the view on two of them with a greater view on the surrounding spectacular rocks with their special shapes, the beautiful soft pink colours of the façades and the red roofs surrounded by the rock colours and the relief obtained by the light and shadow.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Hercules,
very original, spectacular POV. I like very much how you have focused on the monastery setting it among these huge rocks. it really gives us an idea about the scale and makes the effect more impressive. The rock formations are so unique. Amazing DOF. The whole frame seems to be in the brown-gray tones and yet there seem to be such a variety of the shades.
Very attractive work, TFS

Beautiful shot ! I love this place and I dream to go back there. I visited them with my parents when I was young (last year ;-)). About 30 years ago :-(. It's a very amazing area, a single area. I saw a report lately explaining that the abbeys closed little by little. Your note confirms it. I really hope they will find the resources to survive.
You found an ideal POV, not easy to find I imagine. The vertical format is the better for this subject. Well done.
