Monastiraki-Plaka-Acropolis Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a "blue" hour view of Monastiraki square, with its new "looks" after recent works of restoration. In the backgroung you can see part of the "sacred rock" of Acropolis. In the middle a small part of Plaka, one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods of Athens (there are not many left, unfortunately).

On Monastiraki square, you can see on the left the old Mosque, built in 1759 by a Greek-Muslim named Tsisdarakis. Right behind the Mosque, you can see some of the ancient columns of Hadrian's Library. To the right you can see the Metro Station. To the right of the Metro Station (not visible in this photo), there is the central entrance of the famous Monastiraki Flea Market, also known as "Yusurum".

Hi Hercules,
another spectacular blue hour shot.
I am so jealous that you live in such a wonderful photogenic place.
I had the pleasure to walk through those streets, I remember one lovely dinner in Plaka, which took almost whole night.
The composition is wonderful. I like all the elements, I wish postcards were such quality.
I like the newsstand, very pretty mosque and everything in the shade of the Acropolis.
Pavement is very well done too. You caught some nice reflections in it.

Al fin ya han acabado esas incómodas obras.
Me acuerdo muy bien de el lugar y de cómo quedé en una ocasión con alguien en dicha plaza.
Has trabajado muy bien la luz y la Acrópolis al fondo queda genial (¿algo de DRI o similar?).

(el martes, miércoles y/o jueves de la semana que viene... ¿estarás por Atenas? hay posibilidades que me deje ver por ahí)

A splendid night time capture of this famous Athens square well known for its restaurants and night life. The point of view is very well chosen to include a glimpse of the Acropolis in the background. Very good exposure management with superb colours and sharpness.

Amazing picture! The aperture was really well chosen to get the best of blue hour. The star like light adds a nice touch. Priviledged high POV and excellent composition.

Οι φωτογραφίες σου ξεχωρίζουν από μίλια μακρυά.
Έχω βρεθεί σε αυτό το σημείο (όπως και πολλοί άλλοι φαντάζομαι) πολλές φορές, αλλά και την μπλε ώρα, όπως εδώ. Η αίσθηση είναι απολύτως η ίδια. Να 'σαι καλά

I was very amazed to see the Monastiraki's station restored last summer (I had not come to Athens for a very long time!). Now, it is the ground, it seems to be an interesting mosaic.
You chose an excellent POV who allows us to discover many places and monuments.
It is the very beautiful blue hour, and very cultural!!!

wow, i really should have gome there at night time too when i was there 2
years ago. i remember getting out of the metro and walking around there,
such an interesting neighbourhood. anyway, i really like the colors and
light here, together with all the amazing buildings and of course the famous

Η πλατεία ομόρφυνε τελευταία και της έπρεπε!
Εμφανής η διαδοχή των εποχών που πέρασε η Πόλη-κλειδί του παγκόσμιου πολιτισμού και η οποία καταγράφεται εδώ πολύ ωραία! Τα χνάρια ξεκινούν από τον βράχο της Ακρόπολης και κατεβαίνουν μέχρι που φτάνουν μπροστά μας.
Ας ελπίσουμε το πνευματικό επίπεδο όλων ημών των σύγχρονων Ελλήνων, να πάρει την ανιούσα και να αντιληφθούμε την αξία της κληρονομιάς μας. Να μπορέσει να υπάρξει μέτρο σύγκρισης με τους μακρινούς μας συγγενείς. Ουτοπία; Ίσως! Πάντως και με αυτή την έννοια, κάτι θετικό απορρέει!

Η φωτογραφία, έχει “προοπτική”!

tes photos de nuit sont vraiment excellentes, ici un cadrage parfait qui nous permet de voir toutes les choses que tu énumères avec beaucoup d'intérêt, Acropolis en haut , cette place superbe avec cette librairie, le plaisir des yeux et toujours une lumière bien maitrisée, ce que moi je n'arrive pas à faire encore et je souhaiterai que tu me donnes des conseils, car mes photos de nuit sont floues, je pense avoir des difficultés avec le temps de pose; certes je n'ai pas photoshop non plus

lovely corner of that ancient city... i really like seeing the unshown places of athens. in fact, i am fed up with "acropolis postcards" which have been shared from every possible angle, and i wanna see something more different, just like this.
