1000 & 1 nights in Komotini Photo

Photographer’s Note

In one of my previous posts ( Sorry, lady, I wasn't pointing at you! ), I have described the reasons that make Komotini such a unique place for Greece, about the Muslim minority etc.

Here you see one of the greatest Mosque of the town, Yeni Camii (I think it means "New Mosque"), the other one is Eski Camii (it means "Old Mosque"), although Yeni Camii is older than the other. The wall that you see on the left side of the picture belongs to the clocktower that has become the "trademark" of Komotini, and you will see it also in one of my future posts.

On the yard of the mosque you can find the office of the Mufti of Komotini, Mr Tzemali Metso, the spiritual leader of the Muslims of Komotini. I thank him from my heart, because he gave me permision to photograph the interior of the Mosque, during prayer (you 'll see a photo of that soon).

Kalimera Hercules, excellent blue hour photo from Gümülcine (Komotini). If you don't mention in the title and in your note, we can take it as a view from Turkey.

Just to clarify something in your note; there are 2 Muftis. One of them is the one which was elected by the Turkish minority, and the other one -which is mentioned in your note- is the one who was appointed by the government.

Fantastic exposure and a great sky. The composition is really nice as well. I'm not sure whether I'd have preferred the picture w/o the building on the left being in it or not. On the one hand I feel like it is a bit of a distraction, on the other it does add something to the shot as well. I guess it works either way.

Sharpness is great as well. You almost feel like you can touch those coppercolored roof tiles.

This deep, deep blue is one of my favourite colours in painting. In Holland it is seldom seen in the real sky. Maybe someday in a late summer evening, but even than not so blue as in this interesting picture, completed with a even interesting info.

Well, Hercules,

undoubtley the architecture is intriguing enough but the strong point of the whole photo are the intense colours which make such a impressive cromatic contrasts. A good job in pp beside that of composing it.
