Photographer’s Note
When visiting the beautiful prefecture of Trikala, you should go further than the magnificent Meteora, the vibrant town of Trikala and the famous winter resorts of Elati and Pertouli.
Further on up the road, after Pertouli, there are a lot of picturesque villages, Neraidohori, Pyrra, Desi, Agios Nikolaos, just to name a few. Even furter on the western end of the prefecture, in the region of Aspropotamos, the "White river" which later, when enters the Etoloakarnania takes the name of Acheloos, the ancient "river-god", (one of the most important rivers of Greece),you 'll come with a dozen more of these beautiful villages (Gardiki, Athamania, Polythea, Agia Paraskevi, Haliki, Anthousa, Milia, Krania, Amarantos, Kastania etc.) on the eastern slopes of Pindos mountain range. The landscapes there are unforgettable!
I had taken the way from Pertouli towards the region of Aspropotamos on a heavily cloudy day and while I was passing by Agios Nikolaos village, I saw a hole in the sky and a beam of sunrays, lighting Drosohori village and that alone, on the other side of the valley. My reaction: pull immediately the handbreak and take advantage of what didn't last more than 30 seconds.
I had visited Drosohori a day earlier and right at the entrance of the village I took a dirtroad on the left, that led me deep in the heart of the forest where I found some beautiful small waterfalls. After a couple of minutes of shooting, a "family" of bears appeared to take a "shower". I was forced to retreat without a thought.

Hi Hercules,
I like the light strip over the village illuminating it so nicely. There is a good contrast between the village and the coloured trees and the surrounding dark green forest.

looks like a village from a fairy tale, having small white houses with red roofs that are surrounded with dense forests... still trying to see the church though... the bottom right corner is a bit dark but still beautiful shot... no paparazzi shots of the showering bears, giritli mou?
cheers:)...

Geia sou Irakli,
It's a fairy picture, with amazing colours. It's look like a lost village, completely hide like the antique city of Machu Picchu in Peru. Maybe one day you will show us some bears? But take care!

Good reaction Hercules, this was a well spent 30 seconds. This shot is great and makes me think that even in this day and age seeing this view would make one feel insignificant. I almost wrote that the trees should be lightened but I thing that the way you have posted it is best, with the trees in the village almost glowing their colors.
Great capture.

Which becomes moldy this sun which seemed just to illuminate the village and which reflex you had to take out at once the camera. The result is really extraordinary.

Hi Hercules,
How glad we are with the sunlight breaking through the clouds and with autumn providing colour to the mountain slopes. Otherwise (for pictures) it seems like one solid mass of green with the pine trees.
Lovely warm capture here.
Imagine having bears visit - not something that can happen to me, but then again we have no mountains either.

Hello Hercules
The little glowing village against the dark forest is beautiful. Somebody knew you were near and switched on the light! You have handled the contrast well and the colours are very natural.
I envy you seeing the bears, but I am glad you put safety before photography in that situation!
Best wishes Maggie

One would say almost an imaginary landscape. Lighting is extraordinary here. It is an impressive and interesting photograph. Autumnal colors contrasts agreeably with the greens of the fir trees. Very beautiful point of view, thank you Hercules.
