The fisherman had been working on his boat for a long time and from the moment I saw him I stood discreetly close to the trees of the quay to look for some interesting scenes. After a while a colleague of his stood near the boat and they started talking. I went closer and, while I was watching attentively and (admittedly) listening to the conversation, the fisherman from inside the boat threw the rope at my feet. I startled but couldn't tell if it was a coincidence or he did it to tease me or show he was annoyed by my close presence and camera. He didn't say anything, just jumped out of the boat and continued his work and conversation. I kneeled down and took this picture. Again, at the quay of Ayia Marina.

Your personal note complements the photo, indeed with rope serving as a focal point, attracting the viewers attention and guiding it in a meandering path to the fisherman. Excellent photoessay.

A good daily life scene of the fisherman at work with excellent sharpness, color and saturation. The rope makes a good lead in line. Good warm cold color contrasts between the blue orange and yellow. Tfs!

another interesting shot. Nice daily life photography using a nice POV. The rope in FG is nicely used. If some parts of the boatman's face be visible it would be better. Overall I enjoyed the composition with fine colour tone. Nice one. Tfs.

Interesting story, your patience paid off and you got a nice photo. Is that a coast guard boat I see beyond the fishing boats?

bello scatto, mi piat il taglio verticale e la prospettiva creata dalla fune.
Un gesto comune che si ripete nel tempo congelato dalla tua foto.

Reading the note written, I can almost think of reading a novel: so well how you told the story about one winter morning at the island's quay...
A nice picture to complete the tale.

An interesting and amusing anecdote to accompany this appealing composition. In fact, the twisting rope casually cast makes a superb lead-line toward the man and his boat. All in all, a very well presented daily life image with a story to tell.

Ciao e buona giornata

the risk of being a photographer, your note made me smile. A great capture of daily life and this man working hard at his job. I think it was good luck that he threw the rope as it creates a great lead into the scene. Nice moment
all the best

Hello again Ourania,
Another great one from Your hands and eyes.
Following the rope works brilliantly and adds to the action in the image.

Hi Ourania ,
I admire your persistence and it was well worth it. Having the rope in the scene acts as a splendid leader line into the shot. Good sharpness and clarity. Well done.

Great note! I felt like I was there! Fantastic image I love the POV and the stance of the man with his back turned which reinforces what you tell us of his attitude towards your presence. That rope is a great lead line too.Original and creative with a good moment captured and explained.

Takes a good eye to spot a composition, no matter how easy, and you have that eye. The twisted mooring rope just shouts out actually giving me some leading line into the centre stage of the image and the coastal scene beyond. The red colors are contrasting with the tones of the surroundings but everything literally falls into place - the guy- something to lean on for a good composition here. Details are abound, sharp and decently exposed, Well done, Congrats
tyro (16728) 2013-09-28 12:20
What a lovely story! You were lucky that the fisherman simply continued his work - sometimes people like fishermen (at least here) can be a bit gruff and bad tempered.
And what better "lead in" to a picture than a rope? - a rope which entices the viewer to follow its path to the hand of the fisherman and then onwards to the attractive blue and white boat and then the water and the distant hills.
A very well composed shot with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
mirosu (10094) 2013-09-28 21:18
I've enjoyed very much reading your explanatory note. Actually your waiting was rewarded with this interesting snapshot. The rope is nicely leading the eye from camera POV to the working fisherman. Nice to see the small boat laden with fishing nets in background. The whole scene is very well framed in vertical format. Well done my friend. Wish you very nice Sunday.
holmertz (33415) 2013-09-29 10:27
This is a good title for a very good photo. Unintentionally the fisherman gave you an excellent composition. We really get dragged towards him and his boat by the yellow rope. The man and what he is doing is interesting enough for a photo and the nice little boat provides many colourful details that also make this a fine photo.

I'm back from my travels, glad be home, but I missed my TE friends.
A beautiful, characteristic photo. I love photos of fishermen, they are timeless and evoke strong emotions. Beautiful colours and I like how you link us to your subject via the rope, which leads the eye into the frame very cleverly.
Thanks for sharing
